What Does Hillary Want?

I think its pretty clear what she wants.

Actions speak louder than words, and Hillary's actions have been so loud, they're almost deafening. Actions that began two months ago with her stunning "non-acknowledgement" on the night of June 3rd, followed by 3 long days of silence leading up to her "18 million cracks" concession speech.

But let's be magnanimous in understanding why that happened. She needed a few days to absorb the loss. After all, it was kind of a big one for her.

But wait! Did Hillary really concede that night? Again, her actions in the days and weeks afterwards pretty much belied her words. There was precious little "campaigning her heart out" for Obama as she promised to do - but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that as well. After all, it's only natural that she'd want to take the entire summer off after the primary season from hell she put us through endured.

And then there was the little matter of all those campaign bills that needed sorting. Millions and millions of dollars owed. And sure, who could argue with the logic that it would be such a sign of Democratic Party Unity if Obama helped her out with all those?

And now in her most recent "action," Hillary's name will be placed in the ballot at next week's convention. Sure, sure, this is a time-honored tradition that is really for "show" only, since we already know who the Democratic candidate is. Or do we? This election season has been like none before it, and when the primaries ended in June, some serious bridging was needed within the Democratic Party. Obama seemed to do his part in reaching out, both publicly and privately. Hillary on the other hand, suddenly became very passive.

Hillary's advisors said yesterday that "she never pushed for a convention compromise." {translation: she never gave them a firm "no" either} They said she's allowing her supporters to place her name into the ballot as a way to to "avoid chaos in Denver" because of worries that they would "not be able to control it, that it might ruin the convention." {topic for another day: If Hillary can't control 18 million of us, how did she expect to control 305 million of us?}

But I digress. Just to be clear about why she agreed to this action, more words followed. Hillary sent a wordy email to all of her superdelegates yesterday. Something about "the importance of unifying behind Obama while at the same time honoring everyone who participated."

When does this whole thing stop being about acknowledging Hillary Clinton and her supporters, and start being about electing Barack Obama for President?

And a hedged bet as well

A brilliant move.

If BO O'Slimy somehow fucks up in the next couple of weeks, well guess what?

We have an alternative!

I think that Hillary and her supporters, actually, are critical to Obama's chances. He needs their help, but with the way the primaries went, it's gotta be tough to just say "Let's forgive and forget, I love Hillary and all of the rest of you people who think I suck."

But he has to say it.

Similarly, what would anyone think if Hillary had spent the entire summer talking about what a great guy Obama is? Flip meets Flop at Hillary's "McCain is more ready than Obama" tavern.

Weirdest election I've ever seen.

Incidentally, I want to apologize to you for what I did the other day. Unforgiveable, but I'd appreciate it very much if you'd accept my apology.

I was wrong.

As a result of enduring her quest for the presidency, each state has an already in place and well established campaign committee for Obama. With the exception of Michigan and Florida, where Obama is scambling his ass off to establish such in both states. Something about him not campagning in either state after the primaries, or not enough to establish grass roots. It will be close in Michigan . . . maybe closer than other times . . . but it has always been close in Michigan.

Her dragging it out did much for Obama's campaign. McCain has a lot to do to catch-up.

If I were Hillary

What I'd be doing is drawing the country back to the Clinton vs. Obama debate (cuts McCain out of the story*), demonstrating my power and popularity, and following it up by asking all my delegates and supporters to dedicate themselves to winning the election for the Democratic party.

It's a strategy to unify the party behind Obama and set Clinton up for another run.

Overly cynical and negative, your take on it. Highly disappointing. I may forward to you, later, privately, an email received from her/her campaign today. Why do you continue to ascribe ONLY negative motivations to her & her campaign? What is your point here? Obama won the nomination, now it is HIS job to secure the Presidency, not hers to secure it for him. Had she done otherwise & not ASKED to speak at the Convention, or to have her name put into "nomination," how would you have responded? Btw, I think she should not have asked for her name to be so placed. If I were her, I might just have stayed HOME. But that's me. Final question: are you capable of ever giving this woman a break?
Sweet.

Thanks, Schmutzie. Apology accepted, and please accept my own, to you.

{running out of room, too overcome by fraymotion to reply to your comments on Hillary}
yeah, but

what do you think of her actions? Do you think they're helping Obama, or herself?

I wonder what would've happened if Obama's plane had actually crashed last week.

She wants to be President.

And sensible shoes.

She got all the breaks she's going to get.

You don't have to send me anything privately, I read it on the DR. And of course its his job to secure the Presidency, and he's doing just that. But Hillary is still riding the waves of emotion from the primaries, by her actions she is still stoking those fires. Instead of further coddling and "acknowledging" her supporters, she should've put her foot down with them long ago. She should've refused to have her name put on the ballot, period.

Bill would have had to pay the 2 million dollars to the guy in the coveralls for that little baggie of airplane parts.

She wants America to open up and share its feelings with her. She wants America to acknowledge her own feelings and to meet her emotional needs, at least occasionally. She wants America to notice the little things she does day in and day out. She wants America to LISTEN!

She may say she wants a sensitive America but she really wants a dangerous America, an America that will throw caution to the winds and slide its hand into her blouse in the middle of a crowded theater or caress her thighs under the table with its feet during a state dinner with the president of France completely unaware and babbling on about the superior grapes expected this season in Listrac-Medoc. She wants an America that remembers her anniversary and birthday without fail, an America that brings her flowers and chocolates occasionally for no discernible reason other than it was thinking of her all day...
