I think its pretty clear what she wants.
Actions speak louder than words, and Hillary's actions have been so loud, they're almost deafening. Actions that began two months ago with her stunning "non-acknowledgement" on the night of June 3rd, followed by 3 long days of silence leading up to her "18 million cracks" concession speech.
But let's be magnanimous in understanding why that happened. She needed a few days to absorb the loss. After all, it was kind of a big one for her.
But wait! Did Hillary really concede that night? Again, her actions in the days and weeks afterwards pretty much belied her words. There was precious little "campaigning her heart out" for Obama as she promised to do - but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that as well. After all, it's only natural that she'd want to take the entire summer off after the primary season from hell she put us through endured.
And then there was the little matter of all those campaign bills that needed sorting. Millions and millions of dollars owed. And sure, who could argue with the logic that it would be such a sign of Democratic Party Unity if Obama helped her out with all those?
And now in her most recent "action," Hillary's name will be placed in the ballot at next week's convention. Sure, sure, this is a time-honored tradition that is really for "show" only, since we already know who the Democratic candidate is. Or do we? This election season has been like none before it, and when the primaries ended in June, some serious bridging was needed within the Democratic Party. Obama seemed to do his part in reaching out, both publicly and privately. Hillary on the other hand, suddenly became very passive.
Hillary's advisors said yesterday that "she never pushed for a convention compromise." {translation: she never gave them a firm "no" either} They said she's allowing her supporters to place her name into the ballot as a way to to "avoid chaos in Denver" because of worries that they would "not be able to control it, that it might ruin the convention." {topic for another day: If Hillary can't control 18 million of us, how did she expect to control 305 million of us?}
But I digress. Just to be clear about why she agreed to this action, more words followed. Hillary sent a wordy email to all of her superdelegates yesterday. Something about "the importance of unifying behind Obama while at the same time honoring everyone who participated."
When does this whole thing stop being about acknowledging Hillary Clinton and her supporters, and start being about electing Barack Obama for President?
