Rehab doesn't always work, take it f/someone who knows
by aimboats

This will be a real eye-opener but I went to rehab 8 times and only "got it" when I was good and ready. I was age 19-22. I am now 40 and have not touched drugs for 18 years. But there was a day. And again, no amount of rehab worked until I was seriously ready. I tried so many times. It broke my parents and family's and friend's hearts. What made me truly get clean was that I was under 90 lbs and my body was wrecked. My dad took me to a dr and he said that was it. Drugs were ravishing my body and the end was emminent. For me, it took that. Not rehab, not the hundreds of times my parents begged. Altho my parents were the other reason because watching them suffer was too hard. They were/are good parents. But drugs entered my system and I could not not do them towards the end. I won't go into which drugs bcz it doesn't matter. I will say cocaine was just the beginning for me. It only got much worse. And once it gets worse, well then you cannot not have it in your system.

So Lindsey probably isn't even close to getting clean. And just like me, I'm sure she is surrounded by drugs. I was hanging out w/the wrong crowd and it's easy to get hooked and lost. Believe me.

I will hope and pray for her. She needs all of the prayers she can get. It's not easy to get clean. Or I would've done it sooner.

Aimsboat,

If rehab doesn't work, what does? It took you years later to reach your bottom. Did you apply anything you may have learned in rehab years before? Things like: Don't use, change your friends, and your habits related to your drug use? Go to meetings, work the steps, get a sponsor, etc. If you have another method please share.....Michael

Hi ,,, Mr Dulaney... did you live in florida for a while delray beach ..or Haverhill rd?? Just wondering. However, . there are many programs chasing new ideas in florida.... some use rehab such as reducing the amount of drugs used ... some use the cold turkey method.

I know you know that,, but some now use diversion therapy giving new foci for life...

Non work until the person is ready to move forward. Thats the key point.. I hav worked with drug users and the only successes in rehab has been those who are ready. Even the thereapist have been saying for years that an average drug user in rehab will relapse at least 7 times......
