The chosen one?
by salymander

As one who hasn't finished the books, I'd say you're not really qualified to state what it is they're about. Now, no one says you need to like Harry. But you're statement about Harry being the Chosen One, is dead wrong.

Rowling states again and again that the prophesy is not what dictates Harry's life, but his own choices. When Voldemort learned of the prophesy he saw Harry's similarities to himself and thus, made the prophesy self-fulfilling. That which you believe you create, etc. Dumbledore even tells Harry that he has a choice, and there's no need for him to feel that fate has dictated his fight with The Dark Lord. Harry chooses to avenge his parents.

And Harry isn't special, even in the stories. Plenty of people have lost loved ones during the wars. And JKR also states that Neville Longbottom, the same birthday as Harry, could easily have fulfilled the prophesy.

Harry Potter is about knowing that, even when you're alone and you feel like everything is against you, there will always be friends and mentors to lean on. And that even when they die, you still have them in your hard to hold on to. Nothing so shallow as being the only person who is special.
