Kindergarteners have homework now...
by Jen13

I can't imagine a 4 year old being ready for 30 minutes to an hour of homework a night after having sat in school for 8ish hours. My son just started Kindergarten (year round school here) and he is 5, with a January birthday, so for half of Kindergarten he will be 6. I can't see how that is too old. If I had tried to get him waived last year (cut off is Sept 1st) he would have been way too young emotionally even if he could have handled the "academics". I know that packet of homework sent home every Monday and due every Friday would have caused tears. But now, at 5 and a half, he is thrilled to be in school and excited to do his worksheets, whether he is at school or at home.

I can't imagine starting a child at 6 and having them turn 7 in Kindergarten, but a five year old who turns 6 I always thought was the norm?
