Are We A Republic Or Democracy?
by Seasoldier

It appears that I am reading from bad materials here, not that this LINK is the only source at my disposal. MWG, in a post below says, "... all of you disagree with me on this republic verses democracy thingy." Okay, "ALL OF YOU," quickly provide the antidote less I realize my mistake in thinking and further injure myself. Save me...

Seasoldier/I didn't know you guys let MWG speak for you, I thought each of you were individuals! Hahahahahahahahahaha

Your link supports proves my position.

Your inability to COMPREHEND what it says also supports what I've been saying about you all along - that what you READ and what you THINK IT MEANS are two different things.

I could have given supporting links at any time, but, was waiting for you to make a utter fool of yourself. Since you delivered, here's a few links:

<link>

In case that doesn't get through to you:

Here's another:

For good measure, here is one more:

<link>

Now, in your defense, the US and many current REPUBLICS are commonly mislabeled Democracies, but, as YOUR LINK clearly pointed out, there is a difference and we are a Republic.

By the way, here is one more, no link needed...

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Education and MWG...
by Seasoldier

You know what MWG, I know better than get involved in discussing something with you because you never support what you are saying with believable information. You are unable to comprehend the art of brainwashing.

Who was it that stood before that school flag and repeated that so-called PLEDGE from infancy on. Was it you MWG? All that time you never examined from where it came and even now if you examined it you would DENY what you learn differently, which is the crux of the whole problem--your belief system!

To you saying that stupid pledge with big "G" added in 1952 is all that matters regardless of how it was said before that. Well, here is my response:

<link>

Deny that it happened and get in line with the rest of the spineless individuals.

<link>

It takes someone with a spine to stand up to all the sheep.

Seasoldier/Your comment is indicative of how far the Republican party has swung to the left without even knowing it. Hahahahahaha....You want your kids to grow up Socialists? Wasn't that what we, not you, fought against?

Clearly we are a Republic

While our representatives are "democratically elected", they are free to vote their own minds once so elected. In addition to which, those powers not specifically granted to the central government are reserved to the States.

One of the "characteristics" of a Republic is that it attempts to protect the "minority" from the "tyranny" of the majority. Hence, the difference between the House and the Senate.

That Explains It....
by Seasoldier

...I thought I was going crazy in the head with all this information flying around here.

Question:

Can you be BOTH types of governments at once?

Seasoldier/Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: SeaSoldier...
by Seasoldier

""These two forms of government: Democracy and Republic, are not only dissimilar but antithetical, reflecting the sharp contrast between (a) The Majority Unlimited, in a Democracy, lacking any legal safeguard of the rights of The Individual and The Minority, and (b) The Majority Limited, in a Republic under a written Constitution safeguarding the rights of The Individual and The Minority; as we shall now see.""

Seasoldier/Read it and weep:

  • (a) The Majority Unlimited, in a Democracy, lacking any legal safeguard of the rights of The Individual and The Minority,
  • The Majority Limited, in a Republic under a written Constitution safeguarding the rights of The Individual and The Minority;
So, why are we calling ourselves a DEMOCRACY if we are a REPUBLIC? Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Re: So you get it
by MWG

(sort of) we're a Republic...

You can be taught!

Re: No
by MWG
we are a Republic although there are elements of Democracy - some issues we vote directly on.
Democracy or Republic
by RCH1

In some ways we are BOTH. At the Federal level we are a "Republic of Sovereign States" - where the rights of the individual, minorites and States are protected by the constitution.

But, individually, at the State level, we retain many of the aspects of a Democracy - and certainly at the city and county level - especially in thoughs States which have the "referendum" process.

It is your opinion that we are WHAT ? Not speaking of how well it actually WORKS - clearly the system has been badly corrupted - but how it is "structured".

"Not speaking of how well it actually WORKS "

That's where the speaking needs to be done!

The system was always corrupt.

we're an oligarchy!
Got What?
by Seasoldier

That you can't answer the question?

Seasoldier/

In many ways we ARE an oligarchy.
by RCH1

certainly when it come to the Federal Government - where power and financial wealth play an important role in the election process. Which is one of the reasons I prefer less power in the Federal Government and more to the individual states.
