I had an enlightening experiance 11/2 months ago. I am 74, a diabetic for 15 years [diabetes 2]
I had taken all my medication, had coffee withpowered cream & Splenda [maybe toast, not positive.] We were having breakfast after picking up relatives from airport, 70 miles from home.
At airport I stayed in car. I noticed I was getting light- headed & began to see double. by the time the folks got back,I was beginning to be incoherant and babbling.
An abulance was called, took suger count, it was 37, was treated and transported to hospial.
It was 1:15 P.M. when I got a bed in ER room. At 4:43,A.M. I was taken up stairs. I was taken to the bath room. Given a box with a sandwich, bag of chips,an apple & 2 cartons of orange juice.
At 5:20 I was calling my daughter to please pick me up at the hospital. At 8:A.M. we were back home.
NOW HERE IS WHAT I LEARNT FROM MY INCIDENT
GIVE THANKS TO "GOD ALMIGHTY" FOR ALL GIFTS"
- Thanks for family who care, notice changes and respond to them.
Thanks to ambulance people, skilled and caring that they are. Thanks for their vehicle with all it's equiptment.
Thanks for hospitals and their staff, they do CARE and they try so hard.
HERE IS WHAT I LEARNT TO HELP MYSELF
I want to live-- I have to take my medication-- I cannot take my meds without eatting.
Always have some food and drink with me at all times for an emergancy.
Have monitor with supplies and a list of medications, insulin. Medications need Name, strength, dosage and time to be taken, And not to forget medical I.D. bracelet
If only I had taken 15 min. and eaten breakfast .
I did all the other things correctly. It took 11/2 weeks for me to feel better, I do not bounce back like I use to. Ibelive the name of this incident is called "BOTTOMING OUT.I pray this helps at least one idividual.
I could have been one less at that hospital
