The only thing close to Obama in Europe was the victory celebrations for Woodrow Wislon after World War I. President Wilson was seen as a savior and the creator of a new world. Wilson found these roles were more challenging than he could meet. We all know what happened twenty years later.

The message that should be taken from the large, enthusaistic crowds is that there is profound disillusionement with world leadership today. JFK addresed the Berliners in the day of De Gaulle, Adenauuer and Kruschchev when America represented the protector of the free world. President Reagan was there when Gorbachev was makin gchanges in the Soviet Union. In both cases there was good reason for the appaluse, acclaim and honor shown to JFK and Reagan.

One wonders why an untried presidential candidate speaking at a time vastly different from that of JFK and Reagan would draw such immense crowds. There has to be some reasons other than relative youth, charisma and spell binding oratory.

Will Americans follow suit when Obama campaigns hers?

McCain whined because Obama had not gone to Iraq then whined when he did! To me its no contest!

the world is anxious for America to be back and embracing its Constitutional ideals once again i.e. striving for a more perfect union, no torture, no illegal warring, no spying on its citizens. Obama told them that's the direction he wants to take the country should he be the next president. they want that for America, too.

Actually the world is now aware that as Bush takes the USA down the tubes the rest of the world will be pulled under also.

What they are anxious for is a President here that actually has a brain rather than another puppet of big business and the wealthy, who of course would like us to go down since they could buy us up a lot cheaper then.

And the wonder is, Obama made quite a hit with French president Sarkozy. Today's e-mail from a French friend states that Sarkozy was quite impressed with the young candidate.

If the French, who are not at the top of Americs's admirers, especially after Bush, reacted this way, small wonder 200,000 Berliners turned out to cheer Obama.

The modus operandi of the Republicans is based on the politics of personal destruction. Since McCain has nothing to offer other than four more years of Bush, I expect an especially nasty campaign of smears and slander on their part.

One would hope that after the way Bush maligned McCain that McCain would want a clean campaign. Of course since he may run out of geritol ...
