You don't have to be under 30 to ditch the landline.
by Atmos42
What is up with acting like only people under 30 ditch landlines? I'm 40 and my wife and I haven't had a landline for years. Granted we were with Vonage for awhile but then went straight Cell Phones about 3 years ago. It just didn't make any sense for us to have a landline anymore. The power thing is moot since our cordless phones always died during power outages anyway. The $60 a month just to be able to make calls to cities that border us with no features on the phone was stupid, plus we both got to the point where we gave out our cell phone numbers more instead of our home phone. I don't miss the landline at all, and will never go back if i can help it.

I'm in my 50s and we dumped the landline years ago too. My kids pointed out that the landline was only used to receive telemarketing calls anyway. We are much more mobile than we used to be and prefer the ability to make and receive calls anytime rather than sitting home and waiting for calls in the evening.I can't think of a single occaision that I wished I still had a landline. Not one. The fact that I save a couple hundred dollars a year is just a bonus.

i'm 39 and live alone in downtown area .. i used my cell phone exclusively, but kept the landline in my loft for 1 yrs and barely used it.. it was there when i moved in and it was connected to the front door access (for me to buzz people in).. the only calls i got on it were telemarketing. the next year i got rid of it and didn't miss it

a year & a half ago, i decided to research which internet access service to purchase for my laptop.. i had just been utilizing all the wireless networks and jumping on public ones, but knew i needed a more reliable source..

i don't have cable TV and don't really want it, especially living alone.. i watch news-related stuff online and i have netflix.. anyway- all the packages available were through cable or phone companies with packages for land line, DSL, cable TV.. i don't want or need all of that!

so i got a broadband card from my cell phone provider and it's only $59/mo. and i can use it ANYWHERE in the country! it's superfast and have not had one single issue..

i have cell phone with internet access and broadband card for my laptop.. total cost per month? $123... case closed for me
