Rotary Phones
by NickD

I would pay a premium for a working rotary cell phone. The novelty of such would be grand fun indeed. Of course a few digital buttons for voice messages and phone numbers would be needed on the bottom, but an rotary dial on a cell phone would be a hoot.

What many people need to remember is that despite all of the technological advances in cell phone privacy, our laws have not kept pace. If you want to be assured of a private phone call when you are dealing with your credit card companies, bank or even your mistress or boy toy, a home phone connected to a land line is the only method of communication short of a written letter that is protected fully by law from prying ears, accidentally or not.

If you give your private information over a cell phone the information is NOT protected the same as if it were a private phone line conversation. If you think you may ever need to question a bank statement or a credit card charge via a phone converstaion, a wise person would choose to use a phone connected to a secure land line.

looking at a white one next to screen right now which i use every time it rings. vintage 1963 & original owner. bulletproof & extremely comfortable with forgiving & mellow audio. never realized your comment til i put another green one in a garage sale & people looked at it like it was jurassic. outgoing calls are a pain without tones for voicemail / menus. my landline cordless comes in handy for that.

also, forgot the bell. the kids fell out of their chairs when they heard a real pair of metal bells ringing. thought it was church instead of a phone call. lol

My parents had their rotary phone well into the late eighties. My niece was visiting them, and asked if she could use the phone, but then had to ask how.

I can't say that I miss rotary phones. I recall making long distance calls, and halfway through the number, thinking you did not spin the last digit quite far enough, and starting over again. I can operate a touch pad without even looking at it.
