It's entirely possible...
by WillJeff

...for Barry Bonds to have become the physical specimen he is today as a result of diet and weight lifting. I've seen it done by others and done so myself. Lest we forget there has been no evidence of his having tested positive. Two-three hours per day in a gym will get you Barry's body if you have the know-how and the cash to hire a trainer. Not to mention the before pictures everyone is so concerned about show that he had the potential to pack on a lot of muscle despite his seemingly waifish frame. Take another look: big shoulders, big legs and his head was already large, his face already chubby.

The myopic view of members of the media and their belief in a book that was written with the express intent to make money leaves me with more questions than answers. Bonds has spent nearly 20 years as a MLB player, with axcess to state of the art facilities and trained professionals and had already shown the potential for greatness before he landed in San Francisco. Bottom line: reconsider what you think you know.

Oh, and leave Hank alone. It's bad enough he received death threats while breaking the record, but to have his golden years ruined with constant media attention over someone else's story is unprofessional and inhumane.

...but highly improbable

If it was just the muscle mass, I wouldn't be all that concerned. (Though it is obviously quite rare to see any athlete grow his chest by 10 inches around the age of 30.) But what I find troubling is how Barry's weight program somehow managed to also grow his head and feet. Reportedly, from the time he joined the Giants in 1993, his hat size expanded from 7 1/8 to 7 3/4, and his shoes went from a size 10 1/2 to a 13. Ever known anyone who's feet grew 2 1/2 sizes around the time he hit 30?

Has anybody thought about the fact that shoe size and hat size can come in different sizes by who makes them?

In one brand of my running shoes I take a 9; in another brand I like I take an 11 -- I would suspect that with endorsements Mr Bonds doesn't change brands, but it is possible. Same goes for the hat size --

My son was a skinny mini all though college and grew 5 inches in height at the age of 22 -- decided that he needed to bulk up for his job, so got himself a personal trainer and did just that -- his 20 year high school class reunion -- nobody knew him.

So I guess until Mr Bonds tests positive for something he shouldn't, then what's the big deal??? The man is going to achieve a milestone in baseball history and be hated for it, that's punishment enough in my book.
