I still miss my landline.
by sugar_k
I finally got rid of my landline during a billing dispute with the phone company a couple of years ago, but I still miss it. Cellphone sound quality and reception are just no substitute for nice crisp landline sound. I'd almost say cellphone technology still isn't ready for prime time, ten years after it's become the default option. Then there's the comfort factor: I've probably developed a permanent crick in my neck from trying to hold a tiny sliver of metal on my ear. I miss being able to sprawl on the couch with a nice big receiver nestled into my ear. I haven't found a cellphone headset that fits my ear yet. Maybe in a couple of months when I get an iPhone I'll be happier, but until then I'll keep missing my landline.

No, cell phones are clearly not ready for prime-time. They can't even handle full duplex conversation. No better than a walkie talkie where only one person can talk at a time.

Yes, they have plusses, but the quality of the communications ain't one of them.

Plus land-lines never drop a call and never run out of battery life (yes, I know about cordless phones, but most people re-dock them after use).

And no one has ever caused a car wreck while using a land-line phone.

People in cars talking on a cell phone is one of my pet peeves. I can't count how many near misses I have seen, because someone was too busy yaking to pay attention to the road. Do you really have that much to talk about that you can't drive for twenty minutes without having a telephone conversation with someone.
