A knowledgeable Public
by unrbug
Chris Hedges | Bad Days for Newsrooms - and Democracy <link> For Truthdig.com, Chris Hedges writes: "The decline of newspapers is not about the replacement of the antiquated technology of news print with the lightning speed of the Internet. It does not signal an inevitable and salutary change. It is not a form of progress. The decline of newspapers is about the rise of the corporate state, the loss of civic and public responsibility on the part of much of our entrepreneurial class and the intellectual poverty of our post-literate world, a world where information is conveyed primarily through rapidly moving images rather than print."

Even in a "paperless" society, there is still a need for "hard copy." And if newspapers, books, magazines are not "hard copy" if you look at it that way, what are they? Personally, I would rather read a book that I can hold in my hand, turn to which page I want, mark if I want, than to try to read a book on the internet. Just me, I know. I am behind the times, eh?

Hard copy. I like that word because people can see something and question it and think about it. If they just hear something quickly on T.V. or radio they can not be sure of what they heard. I am still fuming about after 3 days misinformation about the value of the things tht Bush senior took from the White House was corrected to make the Clinton not look so bad. For 3 days people had developed bad thoughts about the Clinton's. It is interesting how the media controls the publics thinking; like what old movies are being shown. Look closely and you will see the relevance to public opinion which reveals that history repeats itself.
