WHy didn't the Repubs do something about drilling in the US?
by Whocares
They controled the Congress and the Whitehouse and should have passed legislation letting the big oil companies make us pay more for our own oil rather than the oil from overseas, but they didn't. Now they are blaming the Dems for something they could have done any time during the first six years Bush was in office. So why aren't you Repubs out there putting blame on your own party for their failure.

There's corruption in the Republican Party that apparently crossed over to the Democratic Party.

It's another fine example of how POWER CORRUPTS the minds of the weak, self-serving, hand in hand mentality of tenured addicts of hypocrisy.

as you vote, so shall you reap

Actually, the Democrats did sucessfully filibuster a move by the GOP to open ANWAR as part of Cheney's secret energy policy.

They did stop the drilling, so it was time to make a deal.

The GOP and its big oil allies gladly traded off the chancy risk of drilling in remote high cost areas in the undetermined future for a package of warm, safe and lucarative tax breaks.

The Republicans would need to propose a massive taxpayer

subsidy for domestic oil drill-drill-drill, if they were the least bit serious about their scheme. Undersandably, that option's off their table.

They did. They just kept on paying those folks who have capped oil wells NOT to pump. Megabucks.
ANWR Is In The US
by PaulB

Congress passed a bill to allow drilling in ANWR & Bill Clinton vetoed it.

During Bush's term there were enough Dem Senators to filibuster an ANWR drilling bill hence no drilling in ANWR and it's totally the Dems FAULT!

Republican Congress passed the bill... Bill Clinton vetoed it.

Every effort Bush has attempted since 2002 and there have been many has been blocked by Daschle, Pelosi, and Reid.

LOVE THE HIGH GAS PRICES?

THANK PELOSI!!!! THANK REID!!!!!!!!!!

I can only think of one serious attempt to even bring up ANWAR during the last eight years.

And, as I pointed out, the oil men gladly traded the drilling leases for a fat package of tax credits and subsidies.

You can blow your ANWAR smoke screen out your ass.

There is no statistic anywhere that even hints that ANWAR, even if fully developed, would have a significant impact on supplies or prices.

Moreover, the price needs to be as high as it is now to make drilling there profitable.

So, your argment that ANWAR will lower oil prices fails the test on two counts.

We all know who to blame for high oil prices.

We know who Big?Oil's bitches are, George Bush and Dick Cheney, bought and paid for from day one.

IT was Bush who declared that he was going to use his special relationship with the Saudis to insure abundant and cheap oil.

When he said that, oil was $28 per barrel.

Look at it now.

And what did the Saudis do? They told Bush that he should go home and shut up, they weren't going to reward him for eight years of reckless and disasterous failure in their back yard.

The spectacle of the President of the United States flying to Saudi Arabia to beg them to increase production is, in itself, a clear indication of just how much political capital this president has pissed away.

Its especially humiliating for the President of the United States to have to go and beg like that since those same Saudis turned down an invitation for a State visit to Washington in 2006.

IT's clear that the Saudis have no respect at all for Bush (who does?)

TomFitz, that was my thought to about bush going hat in hand to the saudis to ask them to increase oil production. How the mighty have fallen. Reduced to begging for oil.
