Obama alienates 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide.-
by TickleBob
“I guess green is the ‘Hamas color’ — but it's also the color of Islam!” Bazzi said in an email from Beirut. “That's one way for the Obama campaign to alienate 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide.”

Though the campaign’s other sartorial instructions – directing women to dress demurely – are fairly standard, Bazzi said he’d never heard it suggested before that journalists not wear green while traveling in the Middle East, an observation echoed by other reporters.

“I’ve been to the Middle East with Secretaries of State and on my own, and I’ve never heard of anything like that,” said New York Sun national security reporter Eli Lake.

I don't see it. What is it that he's supposed to have done to alienate 1.4 billion Muslims?

I didn't write the article; I know you can read.

No, but you sure interpreted the article

to your liking. You have provided no proof that Obama has insulted 1.4 billion Muslims. In fact, if anyone has insulted Muslims, it is neo-cons who have accused Obama of being a Muslim, thus making it a dirty word. From what I've read, Muslims are enthusiastic about Obama's candidacy.

Not only Muslims, but other world leaders are excited about his candidacy.

Looks pretty straightforward to me....

Make an effort to not wear things that might be construed to be politically supportive of one side or another. There are lots of colors out there. It might be being a little overly cautious, but I would imagine it is no more odd and perhaps a lot less odd than presuming such a move will be considered an insult to all Muslims around the world.

Where do you come up with these postulations?

It's hardly an unreasonable 'interpretation' when the wording he used was a DIRECT quote from the article in question...

“I guess green is the ‘Hamas color’ — but it's also the color of Islam!” Bazzi said in an email from Beirut. “That's one way for the Obama campaign to alienate 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide.”

We can agree that the connection is more than a little tenuous, but to claim of TB a spurious interpretation is even more so.

I'm not obliged to offer proof for an article I didn't author.

You're fos, BG. Read TB's subject line:

"Obama alienates 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide.-"

It was exactly a "spurious interpretation", and you know it.

Re: No, but you sure interpreted the article

You're being deliberately mendacious, since as I pointed out, his subject line conclusion was directly supported by the article in question.

Here, let me post the relevant portion yet again.

“I guess green is the ‘Hamas color’ — but it's also the color of Islam!” Bazzi said in an email from Beirut. “That's one way for the Obama campaign to alienate 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide.”

Clearly this statement can be read either as a future potential or as an event which has already taken place. TB apparently chose the latter.

While we can argue that his conclusion was incorrect, there is no way to legitimately argue that to arrive at that conclusion was irrational or dishonest.

Have a nice day.

So, are you arguing that his subject line conclusion was correct?

I'm arguing that it wasn't. We all know what he meant with his subject line from his previous posts written about Obama.

I wouldn't have thought you to be so naive.

For shit's sake, go back and read what I WROTE!

I never said his conclusion was correct. I took issue with the claim that his arrival at it was dishonest or illogical. I was defending the process, not the outcome.

Of course he meant it. SO What?

You, like so many others, are far too ready to equate understanding of a position and how someone arrived at it with support of said position.

Got news for ya, it isn't the same thing.
