Dobson, tasty fundamentalist waffle
by silent.observer

Another bluff from the religious right called? A sign of waning influence? A (perish the thought) flip-flop?! Ah, the joys of schadenfreude at James Dobson's expense...

"I never thought I would hear myself saying this," Dobson said in a radio broadcast to air Monday. "... While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might."

I bet that hurt. A sensible, pragmatic, eminently political decision on the part of supposedly principled, self-righteous bible thumpers. And yet every aspect of this is bound to suck, thanks largely to their own political machinations.

"There's nothing dishonorable in a person rethinking his or her positions, especially in a constantly changing political context," Dobson said in a statement to the AP.

What a shame that this practice of damning people for 'rethinking positions' now comes back to haunt them. Good luck explaining the subtleties of such 'rethinking' to those you've trained to not get subtle.

And what is it that allows Dobson to swallow his pride and stagger toward his only option, McCain?

Earlier, Dobson had said he could not in good conscience vote for McCain, citing the candidate's support for embryonic stem cell research and opposition to a federal constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, as well as concerns about McCain's temper and foul language.

Dobson said on the radio program he must consider McCain's record against abortion rights and support for smaller government, and added McCain "seems to understand the Muslim threat." He also indicated McCain's choice of a running mate will be a factor.

So, no bashing gays (on the federal level) but a good record against abortion rights. Well, one out of two ain't bad.

I always had my doubts that the Religious Right would abandon the Republicans. The rank-and-file might stay home but the top level leadership actually have no aganda but personal power for themselves. Support of McCain advances that agenda so why not support him?

Support for McCain is nothing more than the lesser of TWO evils. At least he is not Muslim and his wife is proud to be an American. He even salutes the Flag.

Dobson may be proud but he's not proud to be an American.

Nanotech:

  1. Is there anyone running for President who is a muslim? No, doesn't look like it.
  2. Is there anyone running for President whose wife is not proud of America? No, doesn't look like it.
  3. Is it typical for civilians to salute the flag? No, doesn't look like it.

Although Nano doesn't name Obama, the better to be slippery about his lies, there are only two serious candidates running for President after all.

And Obama is a xian, like Nano. He's at least as much a christian as you are, Nano. Heh. And his wife is proud of the country, lately. We can take that. Mindless jingoism isn't a qualification for President for everyone in the country, as you'll hopefully find out in November. And here, a little primer on what the truth looks like, since you wouldn't know. Unless you're wearing your Xoggles™ to block it out, you might notice that Obama is pictured basically doing what he's supposed to:

For plain-clothed civilians: Stand at attention, remove one's hat and place right hand over heart

Or, would you rather he salute the flag, so you can claim he's impersonating a soldier? After all, you already claim he's a muslim when it suits and a radical xian when it suits. So it wouldn't be the first time right wingnuts have willfully self-contradicted.

Same could be said for Nano

Exactly.
He's a damned liar
by BeenThereDoneU

or a complete idiot. He's just like every other wannabe power wielder. He'll swallow whatever he has to swallow to have a seat at the grownup's table. He either knows this about himself (and is therefore a damned liar) or he doesn't (and is therefore a complete idiot).

This is the way it goes for everyone except the true religious kooks like David Koresh or Jim Jones. Those guys don't compromise. Everybody else is one flavor of whore or another.

I don't think that Dobson's "flavor" is one that I would enjoy on my waffles. I prefer real Maple syrup.

Well, I think that psychic portrait the New Yorker published of Angela Davis and H. Rap Brown mighta woke him to the realities of the world.

I may have to follow suit, but I doubt it. I figure if America has to fall, it should fall hard. The Moslem Sleeper Cell and his Black Supremacist wife would probably do the quickest job on the country.

In the chaos, we just might snatch back our freedom if we are bloody enough and get every last stinking one of them (lefties).

Death or Conversion to DemoncRATs!

Don't worry, DD. I'm sure you can find a way past your alleged principles and vote for political expediency, like Dobson is. And if all else fails, I'm sure you'll forget these pronouncements of doom some years from now. In the event of Obama's election, the rest of us will be laughing when the world doesn't end.

But McCain is such a reeking skunk!

I might have to vote for Ralph Nader, just as a joke.

Plans within plans within plans...to quote "Dune".

Dobson sees the possibility that McCain MIGHT win....without Dobson onboard.

If so, that proves that Dobson's pull is DECREASING and he (along with a lot of the Religious Right) will be on the 3rd even 4th row, not getting McCain's attention.

So...he has to make himself relevant again, but how? (as the Grinch would say)....simple...

come out NOW, as McCain's picking his Veep, and hope that McCain does what is expected...i.e. pick a Religious Rightie favorite (Brownback, Jindal, etc.) ...

then Dobson will claim that HE "influenced McCain to pick a Veep that is aligned with our interests"...and claim to his FLOCK that he has such power over McCain...AND hope that the Media will pick up on it and GRANT that he has such power over McCain.

If McCain wins...Dobson's still a player in the Party. If he loses, Dobson claims it's because he "ignored the Christian conservative base". Win-Win for the old preacher.

Why are Dawgy's principles "alleged" any more so than yours are? I've never seen him waffle, and I've never noticed him being a hypocrite. I disagree with him just about 100% of the time, but that doesn't blind me to his virtues.

Awwww, c'mon doggie, just vote for Obama. That'd be ultimate proof of how determied u are to bring about the second coming as quick as u can!

Either ways, voting for Obama or getting other Republicans to vote for Bob-whatshisname, I haven't forgotten that u'r favorite M7Ms are the peanut ones!
