has become passé; “so 00’s”. I feel that the next attack on American soil will come from a lone mentally ill individual, but a brilliant one...hyper genius on the scale of a Joker; think sick twisted Oppenheimer or Einstein. Watch how American culture will change. Will mental hospitals across the country become the next GTMO’s? (Give you an insider’s update...they already are...the mentally ill have NO rights.) Watch the horses on the carousel of American life change color, if the next attack is from a madman (or madwoman) not a freedom fighter. (Is there a difference? Yes? No?)

Cute, but you miss the point, Rubma. We react to each event as if that's the only event that can ever happen.

The largest number of radical Muslims (if you fear radical Islam) is in Indonesia. But we train our military for ops in the desert. During and after Vietnam we only trained for ops in the jungle.

We get focused on one threat and ignore all others, then are so, so surprised when something unexpected happens.

The world has been dealing with terrorism from different sources for years. The US lived in blissful ignorance. When it happened to us we acted as if we were the only country to ever suffer.

This country has always been distracted by shiny objects instead of focusing on the bigger picture.

Besides you and wingnut above, who claims that we are only focused on Southwest Asia?

Where are we training for jungle ops? Frankly, I don't see a lot of diplomacy with Indonesia other than some disaster relief. I have no doubt the US is conducting operations and gathering intel there but as far as preparing for operations in other parts of the world other than the middle east, we aren't.

Rubma, the US and its military are still focus on symmetrical warfare no matter what they blabber about. Terrorism will not be defeated or even held at bay with armies. Or navies.

Phillipines for one....Horn of Africa for another. We send guys to Cold Lake Canada and another Marine base near Mammoth, CA for cold weather training(it's name escapes me at the moment). Ft Irwin and Twenty-nine Palms for desert training, Everglades for some jungle-training....so on and so forth, and still confronting some potential nuclear threat.

Don't forget the huge buildup of special forces going on at the present...certainly the military looking to beef up it's abilities in assymetrical warfare.
