Forget about oil. Let's talk about water.

Repugs assure us we have something like 100 million years of petroleum reserves in the ground or something (I think they say something like 200 years--and who gives a shit about people 200 years from now, right?).

The real environmental crisis that nobody wants to talk about is the very real problem of water shortages. Los Angeles and San Antonio are two cities that face serious problems if things don't change.

I'm guessing Repugs will insist that there is no problem, and will suggest we just ignore it.

Ya'll have a good day. Repugs, it will be easy, since ignorance is bliss...

you're entirely correct anse

water shortages are the most unreported but most important aspect of global warming, and will likely result in far more conflicts in the future than oil already has.

SD is implementing "toilet to tap". LA and San Antonio should follow suit. That's the ugly reality of living in the sunny south.

Should be a self correcting problem, when they run out of water they move. In the case of LA, never could understand why anybody would build a city in the desert.

Last I checked, Atlanta has even worse water worries than L.A. and San Antonio.

Don't confuse jp, who thinks all red states are in the Land of Oz and close to his own Fantasy Island.

Re: Anse you live in the Houston area
by mad_jack_flint

and should know even here we have problems with our water supplies. Now we might not have a shortage but the fact that the water in Houston is undrinkable at time is just one of the things many people ignore.

Soon it will be the Mad Max days and how we will be killing each other for a drop of water....

I'm a Republican and I say there is plenty of water to go around...maybe not for the cities you suggest, but hey; there are other places to live... yes/no?

If dumbDonkeys are not smart enough to move where there is water, let them sweat it... get it? LOL!!!

...you are right of course. We "want" oil...
by Figjam

...but we NEED water. Ahnuld the governator is actually being very pro-active here and is garnering bi-partisan support for a $9B water bill to help build infrastructure and bolster our water reserves.

Yes, you think people get crazy about $5/g gas, just wait until water becomes more scarce...

Better might be to stop issuing building permits. Obvious that the population has outgrown the carrying capacity for both air and water, judging by the last time I flew into LAX. Thought the place had been nuked. Much worse than when I had left in '77.

...too much construction - that never seems to...
by Figjam

...get done. I try and avoid flying into LAX when I can and usually use Burbank for most business trips.

The market is adjusting and people are now moving out of California, which is OK with me - I love it here and am not going anywhere.
