Libarals....Question.....
by Commander Gay

Why should we ratify the Kyoto Treaty if China, and India are exempt? Aren't they the worlds biggest polluters. Are we in that big a hurry to become a third world nation?

If Obama support Kyoto and he better if he knows where his bread is buttered, how will it help bring the most beloved manufacturing jobs (LOL) to the USA?

Take a stab at it.

We don't need to sign the treaty to honor its goals. We can still pursue those goals on our own.

China imprisons political dissenters and India has a rigid caste system, so I guess you'll argue next that America ought to do that sort of thing, too.

We shouldn't.

I don't agree with Sen. Obama on everything.
How did you glean that? Your answer doesn't even......

address the point. The senate under Clinton vetoed Kyoto 96-0, and Bush was hammered by you guys for not adopting it. How are you going to get manufacturing back if the playing field is not level.

Thanks for being honest.

Nice red herring. Obama doesn't support Kyoto and wants to create a smaller consortium of countries to deal with issue. That would include China and India.

Obama supports the concept of the Kyoto protocol - but only if it includes China and India.

He didn't criticize the Bush adminstration for failing to sign - her criticized them for walking away - for not working to leverage China and India and get them on board.

But you know, as simple as this is - this is just way too much "nuance" for these right wing nutters.

  • Create New Forum of Largest Greenhouse Gas Emitters: Obama will create a Global Energy Forum — that includes all G-8 members plus Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa –the largest energy consuming nations from both the developed and developing world. The forum would focus exclusively on global energy and environmental issues.

Perhaps instead of the U.S doing the manufacturing & polluting, with India & China answering the phones, the U.S could answer the phones and let China & India have it's chance at polluting the earth. Then everyone gets mad at them instead of the U.S for a while, while taking the oppurtunity to clean up our enviroment. The first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol ends on 12/31/2012.

The model for the protocol actually appears balanced considering the U.S is an Annex I country.

    do you suppose:

    (1) that's why the U.S. signed it, but are declining to ratifiy, for purely U.S political reasons, or

    (2) you don't really care about any of this it's just a way to attack Obama policy, by pointing out that Kyoto is a pretty complicated doctrine.
