Okay. Get this.
Remember JO's post about the bike and the screws and the battery gel and the 120 volts? Well, let's just say I can feel his pain.
Yesterday, my wife had her catalytic converter stolen. In broad daylight. From her workplace. Have you folks heard about this? They ain't cheap (due in large part to the fact that they're made with a bit of platinum) and they can't be locked up so it's pretty easy for some urban vermin to reach down, dremmel saw off the ends and make off with a $600 piece of exhaust pipe. Not bad for 15 seconds of work!
So now, I'm in "that mode." That dark, scheming, creative, vengeful mode. We'll put a new catalytic converter in but what's to prevent Mousier Crepey LePants from noticing her car is nice and quiet again and swoop down for another easy kill?
Answer: Me!
With your help, if you want.
I've already come up with some ideas for a simple under the car motion sensor (user activated only when parked) but you folks tend to be pretty creative so please reply with your own ideas.
No holds barred on ideas but here are a few guidelines:
Ideas involving simply a beefed up car alarm that is triggered by car jiggling or minor movements will not be seriously considered since it really doesn't take a lot of jiggling to liberate a catalytic converter.
Ideas involving blood, hooks, pain, high voltage or other items possibly resulting in legal action taken against me, although entertaining and emotionally satisfying and may provide good reading will not be implemented.
Ideas involving cameras, piercing alarms, and restraining devices will be seriously considered. And the simpler the design the better.
Ideas involving just "calling the police" with no regard for providing positive identification of the perp or restraining/tracking the perp for quick pickup and delivery to the nearest cross bar hotel will be laughed at and scorned.
I'm all about being a McGyver but simplicity is king!
Got any ideas?
