Didn't you cons get the memo?
by RonDoe
  • America currently has a debt of 9.6 Trillion dollars.
  • US currency is devaluing at a rate of aprox. -1.2% per day.
  • America donated $60 Billion last year in foreign aid to the middle east alone.
  • This year America will spend another $1 Trillion in Iraq and $800 Billion in Afghanastan.
  • America is in 130 countries with over 700 military bases.

Last year America borrowed $750 Billion and spent $1.7 Trillion of it's own tax dollars to maintain a global presence.

----

Cons run off and let the guy start a trillion dollar a year war, putting the country in a 9.6 trillion dollar debt after having inherited a budget in good standing from the Democrats with a $5.6 trillion surplus, and then want to blame it on an incoming Democratic administration when they come around to collect the debt showing some sort of fiscal responsibility.

Tax & spend is right.. Spend under the Republicans and Tax under the Democrats.

which is better, tax and spend,

or spend and borrow?

"This year America will spend another $1 Trillion in Iraq and $800 Billion in Afghanastan."

This isn't accurate, not are his devaluation numbers, although I agree we should wind down the empire and pay cash. You probably shouldn't quote pseudo-libertarians around here.

I'm no expert, I was quoting a Ron Paul video I had been watching.. it may not be accurate.. my apologies if it is not.

Paul's got some wacky ideas and I personally woudln't want him anywhere near the reigns of power....but what is "pseudo" about his libertarianism?

Most cons will only "re-discover" their love of balanced budgets the moment Obama is sworn in....after 8 years of not caring since it was "to fight the war on Terr'urr" and to keep their "permanent majority".

The small contingent like HST-Liber actually BELIEVE McCain will not raise taxes to balance the budget and STILL believe that ol' worn-out LIE from every Repub running since Reagan that THEY will "cut taxes and cut spending and balance the budget".

Tax & spend is right.. Spend under the Republicans and Tax under the Democrats.

Well, that's half right...on both accounts. However, I see it more as tax and spend from both parties; just in a different order. The Republicans spend and then tax...the Democrats tax and then spend.

As far as the money that we are spending to fund the wars in Iraq and Afganistan...I seem to recall support for this war on both sides of the aisle when it was vogue to do so and when the most of the American people were supporting it, as well. If most Americans still supported the war, so would the politicians...Republican and Democrat alike.

Washington DC's problem is they live for today...the ones that do have foresight have no ideas how to get where they would like to go.

We've got the blind leading the blind in this country and what we are experiencing now is just the chickens coming home to roost. Should be an interesting next decade.

Didn't notice that it was Paul, as he is generally accurate with his figures and ideas and the above numbers are garbage, including last year's addition to debt, which was $526 billion.

I would guess that the quotes were off a Paul website and written by someone else. Paul is fairly legitimate in big ideas, a little weak in transitions. I recommend his "Revolution" highly and have suggested that he run for governor in Texas to put his ideas into real world action. I had hoped he would run Libertarian this year and have suggested to some Republican candidates I know that they read his books and start moving toward his ideas and away from the failed "Free Lunch."

"If most Americans still supported the war, so would the politicians...Republican and Democrat alike."

Democrats have voted funding for the war, including Barry bin Barack, who will continue it.
