Dead? Nah... on the ropes? Absolutely. The pendulum keeps swinging, and certainly not in Rush's direction at this point.

Seems if I were Rush, I'd want Obama to win. 4-8 years of solid bashing material (long as he doesn't pull a "Don Imus" on the air)...and then he can claim that "What we need is another Reagan"....

If McCain wins, Rush and the Hard Right move back to the back of the auditorium like they were in the Rockefeller/Jerry Ford days.

Oh? When, after McCain wins?

You're agreeing with Rush?

That's weird.

Here's my take on it. Through the years, Democrats and Republicans have constantly evolved.

My brother told me just last night about some old Democrats in Texas who are now in line with Republicans. If you go back 60 years and come forward....... the two parties have probably switched places in their fundamental ideals several times.

The Democrats, back in the 60's were all about open-mindedness and tolerance and the Republicans were so rigid in their ideals that you couldn't budge them.

Now.......it's the Democrats who have become rigid and the Republicans are much more tolerant (except for the religious wing of that party which will always remain rigid).

My point is that things change.

Republicanism isn't "dead"........it's just evolving with the times, as are the Democrats.

If anyone person joins a party and doesn't change at all........ they will eventually have to change parties. But most of us also evolve and it's all okay.

I prefer not to identify with either party but to take the things I like about both.

Agree. The Republicans will redefine themselves, as the Democrats did after 2004, when they went Blue Dog, so the old Christianist Family Values wing is on its way out. I expect the GOP to turn into the peace party when it becomes Barry's Blunder.

Nothing is "dead" or even on the ropes, Stan......... things change. Maybe Republicanism as we knew it will pass away...... but the great thing is that nothing stays the same forever. Hopefully we grow and get better.

Jen--"the Republicans are much more tolerant (except for the religious wing of that party which will always remain rigid)."

You mean their LARGEST voting bloc? "except for them", very open-minded lot those Repubs???

Re: Bipartisanship...me and HST-Liber agree. Others?

Yeah, lol (and groan)......... but I was an "open-minded" Republican until Bush was elected. And I know a lot of others like me.

Now I'm an open-minded independent.

I wouldn't want to be associated with either party for obvious reasons.

I think that "family values" should be the mark of both parties. It shouldn't be to the point that it points fingers at or kicks out unconventional families, but supports the family whatever it is.

And yes.......the Republicans will re-define itself. I have seen that happen more than once and moving into the future is a good thing.
