The Right Not to do Your Job

I see the inmates have finally taken over the asylum...

Bush's motives are obviously not pure here, but the concept isn't too far out there. The main difference in hiring practices seems to be a change in the type of questions asked. Instead of, "Do you feel that a woman has a right to a safe, legal abortion." or "Do you believe that abortion and/or birth control is moral.", you have to switch to "Can you and will you provide abortion and birth control services as per your job description without prejudice and without making moral objections to the patient and coworkers?"

I imagine the distinction isn't too far removed from non-Catholic catholic school teachers. They might not have to believe in the saints, but they should be able to teach their subject without criticizing Catholicism.

Now the real outcome of this will be more like thousands of anti-choice people applying for work and then making formal complaints when they're not hired all in the hopes that federal funding will be withdrawn.

You and Emily are such girls.

Evidently, the conservatives are involved in a political push back on permissive liberals and their ideas about abortion rights.

An OB/GYN should from case to case be able determine the moral ramifications of performing an abortion and choose to perform one or not based on their moral certitude on each individual circumstance. They should never be forced to do a procedure they believe to be morally reprehensible.

The free market will determine those morals for the monetarily minded doctors.

Look at plastic surgeons they put boobs into minors all the time. But should society be able to force a surgeon unwilling to do so to perform said augmentation despite his/her belief it would be innappropriate?

You all are .... nevermind.

Spiker, come on.

If I was a plastic surgeon who didn't believe in boob jobs for minors, I would not go to work at an office which specialized in boob jobs for minors. I would do reconstructive facial surgery, or some other non-morally-charged specialty.

If an OB/GYN believes that abortions are immoral and Planned Parenthood is murdering babies, why on EARTH would they apply there?

No one is "forcing" doctors to perform abortions. That's absurd.
