I agree with you about everybody top posting, it drives me nuts since they have nothing to say.
I'm going to put this here for no real reason.
The switched letter got me thinking. Suppose it is true suppose two children were really switched at birth. What if one family is super hard core Christians and the other family are a group of hippies? Or Jewish? Believe in the Flying Spagetti Monster? Vegetarians? Vegans? The list can go on and on
To discover the other family has a total opposite view as you and you could have been raised that way... it boggles the mind. Because one would assume if you were raised a certain way that you believe your way is correct it could really alter the way you believe everything!
It could get even worse. If years from now I discovered I was switched at birth (which I know for a fact I wasn't) and my biological family were child abusers or had a huge tragedy when I was still in elementary school. I don't think I would want to open that can of worms to think what it could have been like to be raised by awful people or under sad circumstances. I would prefer to keep it a fantasy that I was a princess or something like that and not find out the truth.
Maybe the LW (assuming for a moment it is true) was raised with a situation like the above and wants to wish her life was different. Although I think even in that case I wouldn't want to know either. To know that I went through a difficult time and made it out the other end but because someone was incompetent forced me into a horrible situation? No, I wouldn't want to know.
