Jeter and Ryne Sandberg

After reading this article, I had flashbacks to growing up in Chicago and all the hype in the late '80s/early '90s given to Cubs' 2nd baseman Ryne Sandberg.

He won several Gold Gloves and was praised for his incredible fielding percentage. Yet at the same time, you never saw his uniform get dirty and you never saw him take chances. Furthermore, Ryno had the personality of a shrubbery.

The moral of the story is that fielding stats are difficult to analyse at best.

Ryno redefined how a pro plays 2nd base.

His range was unbelieveable and he had the best arm of any 2bagger that ever played. You must be related to Joe Morgan

Never dove for a ball and never took chances. Only fielded what what hit right to him. Not a terribly agressive fielder.
