"Kill" was a big hit at Camp Pendleton according to Tony Perry of the LA Times and I am looking forward to seeing the series starting Sunday. It got several stories in the Times, comparing it to "Band of Brothers" (the 101st Airborne from D Day to VE Day) so it may be a big hit. Sure, some marines are marginal kooks and there have been some brought up on murder charges. A sergeant will be tried in a federal court in Riverside in August for murders in Falluoja in Nov 2004, a house to house battle so fierce some marines had bites on their legs and arms while clearing stucco rooms of the savages. Some marines have become outstanding prominent citizens, such as William Manchester, a famous biographer; James Brady, a writer for Parade (a rookie platoon leader in Korea); the late Jack Smith, a well known LA Times newsman; Prof. E.B. Sledge, a retired teacher at the U of Alabama who wrote "With the Old Breed on Peliliu" and many others. I write this as an army veteran in the early 60s in Germany, no combat. Check out the new books on the Marine Corps at Borders. Semper fi!
