disney's timely villians
by baltimore aureole

its possible to immediately classify what era a movie was produced in by who it casts as the villian.

disney has decided that polluters, and more specifically people who throw out garbage, instead of recycling, are the villians of note recently.

i laugh at old(er) movies which show james bond fighing against the soviets (arabs as our allies); evil newspaper editors; evil oil barons, etc.

in a few years we'll find the villians in wall-ee equally humoroous.

by that time hollywood will have decided that there's a new villian du jour.

how about senators who use earmarks as a form of kickback to large campaign contributors?

don't like that one? how about evil school administrators who keep their kids locked in a failing system without hope of escape?

There's nothing wrong with Dolores Umbridge that a dementor's kiss wouldn't cure. She's a Nazi in fluffy pink clothing, and as despicable a character as I've read in recent fiction. One of the disappointments at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was that Rowling did not include a line in the paragraph about Kingsley Shacklebolt taking over as Minister of Magic announcing that Umbridge had been arrested and sent to Azkhaban. I'm sure Schacklebolt will get around to it quickly, but I'd like to have read it, if you know what I mean.
