Was this lie necessary?

Or was it just simple confusion?

McCain suffers Hillary “moment”

Written by Kristin Chapman
July 11, 2008 38 Comments

It seems Hillary Clinton isn’t the only one who has trouble recalling the details of the past: While in Pittsburgh yesterday, John McCain said it was the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line that he listed as his squadron mates during interrogations as a POW. And yet, every other account he has given–including in his best-selling 1999 memoir Faith of My Fathers–he said it was the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers anecdote is not only a key part of the McCain biography, it’s part of his argument against torture.

Explaining why he thinks torture can result in erroneous information, McCain wrote in Newsweek in 2005, “In my experience, abuse of prisoners often produces bad intelligence because under torture a person will say anything he thinks his captors want to hear–whether it is true or false–if he believes it will relieve his suffering. I was once physically coerced to provide my enemies with the names of the members of my flight squadron, information that had little if any value to my enemies as actionable intelligence. But I did not refuse, or repeat my insistence that I was required under the Geneva Conventions to provide my captors only with my name, rank and serial number. Instead, I gave them the names of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line, knowing that providing them false information was sufficient to suspend the abuse.”

The McCain campaign insists the mix-up was just an honest mistake–but how do you mix up a story you’ve told countless times? For this Republican gal, it boils down to two scenarios: Either it’s a sign of his age (which is no good for a man who might run our country) or it’s political pandering at its worst.

I don't believe Mc"Cunt" on anything. Most certainly not anything he blathers about his time in the Hanoi Hilton where he clearly made friends with the VC enemy and surely making his stay there a lot less stressful than his GI fellow lodgers.

And lest we forget, he did say he "didn't love America". One has to wonder how he proved that to his VC buddies?

If he's such a "war hero" then why these:

1. Fellow POW’s say John McCain Was a Coward and a Traitor in Viet Nam.

2. Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain

* The videos are rather interesting.

And one of the most obviously blaring facts to come out of his Green Bay Packers/Pittsburgh Steelers tale, is that torture DOES NOT glean good information.

It's just torture, for torture's sake.

I think in the case of some it's just habitual cg.

As I remind our fraycon foes here from time to time--- a good liar requires more intelligence than they can muster, and it's clear from a variety of indicators that he isn't very bright.

As I've also noted recently to you--- I think this "liberal" MSM is BHO's biggest obstacle, and to others--- I don't think McSame woulda entered the race had he not known of their intentions of assisting him as they have.

As you noterd earlier, that same MSM has a vested interest in keeping this a "close" race, and this may or may not explain in large or small part their motive and the current result.

Clearly if they treated him as they have BHO and Michelle, either this race wouldn't even be close, or we'd have incontrovertible proof of how stupidly partisan or just plain stupid far too many in this country still are even after Bush.

As it stands, too much can be attributed to their innocent ignorance that has resulted for the MSM's conduct and coverage. But man---what if the dyke ever breaks?

They are playing the game well in otherwords, but one that is detrimental to this country in more ways than I'd care to go into, and that I'm sure my very smart friend can imagine for herself..

I can't do anything but agree with everything you just said, stupe.

Excellent post. ;-)

Political pandering?

Green Bay Packers versus Pittsburgh Steelers?

LOL....oops...sorry to laugh at the mentally impaired.

thanks cg

I'd add one thing cg---it was known from the getgo he was gonna have the "McSame" burden, and we know how they treated Bush.

sweet dreams my friend---I'm gonna tie up loose ends, and hopefully catch a good main event soon.

PS--- I'm still waiting for my "Great job!" on that "Venus" prediction....lol ;>)

Ha! I meant to get back to you on that one!

You did call it.

"Venus in 2".

Well done!

And I'm glad Venus won this time. Serena's always been a little bit stronger (and definitely more competive based on her "after match comments"...lol).

Have a good evening, stupe. ;-)

He's obviously still lying, and trying to scare/fool Republicans into believing their "salvation" rests with suppressing the vote and immigrant bashing at the same time. (Cargirl)

Or THIS one?:

It's been known for quite some time that the "phantom illegal vote" is just a way of Repubs to make it more difficult for Dems (which outnumber Repubs), to vote.

Or THIS one?:

But the focus on the minute number of illegals that happen to be registered because of driver's license applications, etc...is just a ruse to cover for your bigger objective. That is to make the number of eligible voters in this country smaller

Were any of those lies "necessary"? Not that I can see.

Didn't stop you from telling them though.

I wonder if you voted for Kerry? After his flagrant pandering to Red Sox fans, telling them how he admired "Manny Ortiz"?That must have made you cringe though, huh?

I told not one lie. Calling posters "liars" is just your default "debating tactic". And that's IF we want to call it debating.

The fact that you saw fit to bring up Hans von Spakovsky, without knowing a damn thing about him, says more about you than it does about me.

You're not "debating" anything...
by ErictheRight

you persistently bring up proven falsehoods and your own paranoid delusions trying to win an argument on a chat board that has lost multiple times in a court of law.

You're gunfighting with no bullets.

Uh...yeah...right, Eric.

Now you're babbling nonsense, and projecting again, I see.

Again, you didn't know a damn thing about the clown that authored the article you cut n pasted. Just that he wrote some screed about "illegal voting" that whipped up ignoramuses like you.

Feel free to point out where the instances
by ErictheRight

of illegals voting he cited are of his own making. Are you claiming these are falsehoods?

If not, one must really question why you chose to engage this thread at all, especially when you bring nothing to the table except debunked mythology.

Talk about "ignorant". The challenges the election laws meet in court demanded instances of a systematic or organized disenfranchisement effort. They brought NONE into evidence.

You just keep barking, but that doesn't win the argument.

Put up or shut up time.

He didn't cite a single case.

Yeah...he "said" they were prosecuted and convicted. Who?

He's a discredited, disgruntled hack (that was forced out of the running in the FEC), in which, again....you didn't know a damn thing about.

Oh, and before you think you've successfully taken this thread off track....was McCain's lie about the Steelers necessary?

Or should he have just stuck to his "original" story of the Packers?

It's always disturbing when people just lie out of habit, and tell lies just for the sake of telling lies.

I know you're very familiar with that.
