Dear Lord, Engber, wake up and smell the coffee. You are wrong on so many levels -- first about the connections between lifestyle and fat and then about the movie.

1) Not everyone is fat because of indolence and the intake of large amounts of calories. But lots and lots of people are. You can't deny that the U.S. has the most obese population. Nor can you deny that the "corporatization" of food product may be one of the reasons why. As in the film, we see a lot of advertisements for "easy" food produced by agribusiness or distributors which just happens to be highly caloric or laden with chemicals. I haven't seen an ad for spinach lately. Have you? Go read "In Defense of Food" again if you need to, but I'm convinced. Eating mostly plants, preferably local, and avoiding processed food can only help.

2) Why not actually listen to the people who made the movie? Andrew Stanton told Terry Gross on NPR's "Fresh Air" that the bodies were designed to look like helpless babies in part because of the corporate coddling and also because of the long-term effects of space on humans which he'd discussed with some NASAA scientists. Go figure.
