Is Edwards a No Brainer for VP?
by zuko

Famously documented, John Edwards never really stopped campaigning after 2004. Until the Obama phenom upended him in Iowa, good arguments could be made that he was might easily be leading the dem ticket right now.

Is there any better choice for VP?

Ivolved in 2 national campaigns, arguably few are vetted as completely as Edwards. He ran on a ticket that recieved more votes than any Dem ticket in history.

He is an accomplished debater and maintains extremely high positives among a broad range of voters. As a one time Senator, his brief track record holds few surprises.

Could any VP choice be a bigger let down for the news hungry press looking for fresh blood to inspect and tear apart? Smiling John?

I've always thought Edwards is a no-brainer (if you catch my meaning).

They say he's looking at Chuck Hagel for VP and of course Bill Richardson and Joe Biden.

Of the four choices with Edwards as a choice..I think Hagel and Biden are the most formidable choices.

With them on board I may feel Obama could be trusted..that is if he listens to them. I worry because as we know and have seen with Bush; unbridled and incompetent power can be a very dangerous thing.

Edwards was a big disappointment in my eyes as far as being Kerrys running mate. After all the fanfare of the announcement was over he virtually dissappeared from public view.

Biden or Bayh would both make fine ticket mates on Obama's slate. Clinton wants to run again in 2012 so she would be better served for herself to avoid an Obama ticket. If she won VP and Obama was able to get a good start turning this country around she would be stuck in the number two spot for 2012. If Obama cannot turn this country around, rightly or wrongly, Clinton will be linked to any failures and will not have a chance in 2012.

So for her supporters, who want her to be on Obamas ticket, it would be a mistake for their candidate. If she takes the VP spot she will effectively end her chances to be president.

Gosh. Hate givin the Dems advice, but no. He did diddly squat last time around except look pretty and wait to run for Prez.

Um, yeah, if you're playing not to lose, Edwards brings not a lot of baggage.

But that's not all he brings not a lot of. Brings neither a state nor a constituency. Unless it's the inured in an accident constituency.

No upside or downside here. Lest it be the downside of missed opportunity.

hate to say this, but I agree with Urq.

I like the man, I like his passion. I think he would make a good AG (I think Janet Napolitano would be better, but I don't want to lose her as governor).

Edwards is a good guy

But I just can't really care about this election.

The parties are the same to me. The candidates sound the same.

What is there to make a big fuss about?

The Mostest Importantest Election Ever

I heard some guy on the news say that. So it must be true. Though I heard someone else say that four years ago. And the four years before that. And the four years before that.

In truth, there's not much difference. I hold the slender hope that McCain won't raise taxes. And maybe his election will scare enough crap out of Dems that we'll actually drill our own damned oil.

That's enough to turn me out. But I, like a lot of crazy persons, am committed.

Evan Bayh is a better choice.

Evan Bayh would be a good pick for Obama's VP. He has executive experience. He's the former 2-term Governor of Indiana. He was a firm HRC supporter in the primaries/caucuses. Picking him as VP should go over well with HRC and WJC and more importantly, with HRC supporters. He is a moderate to conservative Dem in his 2nd term as Senator of Indiana. He could help Obama make Indiana competitive. He's won a statewide race 4 times in Indiana. Can't help but think he'd help Obama in PA,OH,MI,NH,CO,IA,MO and VA. His political career and record are very similiar to Mark Warner's. He'll be 53 this December. I think he'd bring a lot of positives to the Obama/? Dem '08 ticket.

LOL on Edwards as VP.

I think the choice for VP will go on and continue after someone is elected. I don't think that either candidate can be accused of being decisive.

Derisive in Obama's case, Yes.

Incisive in McCain's case, probably.

But decisive...No. The fence looks like it is bowing a bit under the pressure actually.
