problems with my prius

1. The automatic "no slide" feature means that the wheels do not spin on ice if you accelerate. While this may be statistically better for people driving on ice, it is a nightmare if you are stuck in a snowdrift and need to time acceleration and manual pushing, which requires some slippage. The wheels don't spin, so you do not get to use the motor to help get out of the drift.
2. There is no apparent way to put it in neutral when the battery is dead, again a problem if you need to push it out of the garage to get to the battery to jump it.
3. There doesn't seem to be a system for getting upgrades of the software into the computer: GPS, etc.
I know I had some more like this...

I can't address your first two problems but software updates are done at the dealership but their rarely needed.

To update the GPS system you purchase the latest GPS DVD from your dealer and install it. I don't remember where the DVD reader for the GPS system is but you can probably find it in your owners GPS manual. I'd also guess that the dealer where you purchase the update will either show you how to install it or do it for you.

The GPS updates are not cheap though and it's worth shopping around to different dealers. I've seen them for as little as $75.00 and for as much as $250.00. Unless you live, work or travel a lot in an area that is changing quickly (adding new roads, road name changes etc.) It's not worth updating very often.

One more thing... adressing the issues I didn't in my last post. Check out the many Prius groups, search their back posts and join one or more of them. If you don't find a solution, post your problem to the group. You will likely find others who have had the same or similar concerns and problems... and probably a solution.

In addition, for example, you'll find people who have made deals with tire companies that will ship to you at wholesale prices, Toyota dealerships that sell parts wholesale (a OEM Prius oil filter for $4.00 for example).

The groups offer a wealth of information on just about anything Prius you can think of. I had a problem that neither my dealer nor even Toyota could help me with. I posted it in the Prius-2G group on Yahoo and with-in 30 minutes I had a solution to my problem.
