Most overrated/ underrated Presidents

Who is the most overrated President in US history?

Who is the most underrated President?

Here are my nominations for both:

Most underrated: Richard Nixon.

Nixon brought an end to the Vietnam war. Of course, he served a shortened term, so we can't know how far reaching his success might have been. I think that had Watergate not happened (something that reflected upon his Presidency but not directly) he might have been considered one of our better Presidents.

Most overrated: JfK.

JFK brought inexperience and youth and charisma into the office, but little else. He took us to the brink of nuclear war and wasted the lives of our men because of broken promises. I believe that had he served out his full term, he would have had to have a lot more than charisma (and a good looking wife) to make his presidency look good to future generations.

So. Who would you nominate? Clinton and GW Jr. are exempt............. I believe that a President has to be out of office at least 10 years before he can be fairly rated.

If there are enough nominations, I'll post results. Again, Clinton and GW aren't in the running so I'll ignore votes for them.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!....now THERE'S a "meaningful fray contribution"......got any other zipperhead hoops you want people to jump thru for your amusement?
can't agree with you on Nixon at all

he could have ended the war a year into his first term. Instead he waited until congress threatened to block all funding.

Most overrated would have to be Reagan. He traded arms for hostages and illegally supported death squads in another country. He drove us deeply into debt and started a series of events designed to reduce the middle class.

And who would be the most underrated President, warden?

JFK/Woody Wilson
that is an incredibly tough call

I would nominate John Adams. Though there is no argument he did some stupid things, he may have actually saved the newborn republic by preventing Hamilton from raising a standing army. It is very likely he prevented a military coup by Hamilton when doing this.

Having said that, there are probably others just as deserving.

Wilson would have been my second choice for most underrated, righton. I named Nixon because he's more recent.

Wilson was one of our most intelligent Presidents and he was an excellent President.........though he is barely mentioned now.

I agree that there are probably a number of Presidents that did things that either have been forgotten or their importance has come and gone. But John Adams is a good nominee.

I would agree with you that JFK is currently the most overrated, he was a third stringer at best. Withholding air support for the Bay of Pigs assured the Cubans of a miserable future under Fidel. Premier K thought he was a weakling that's why he put the missiles in Cuba. Then in a burst of utter stupidity JFK when he had the USSR on the ropes, takes the missiles out of Turkey, an concession totally unnecessary.

About the only useful thing he did was to cut the war time taxes, which stimulated the economy much as George Bush's tax cuts helped get us out of the Slick Willie recession.

Let us not forget that JFK sort of fluffed up his resume a bit, he was admitted to the London School of Economics, he never attended. I don't hold a man who is out playing drop the soap with some bimbo while his wife is in the hospital having a miscarriage all that great either.

To say he wouldn't have gotten us involved in VietNam is re-writing history. He ordered in the 16,000 advisor's. Johnson had the same advisor's as Kennedy it would have turned out exactly the same.

In conclusion remember that JFK was elected by Mayor Daly of Chicago, without the help of the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine (see OBAMA) JFK would have lost.

Lastly his reputation as a lothario, his girlfriend when he was in the Navy and working in DC turned out to be a Nazi Spy. Good choice. Angie Dickinson is quoted as saying her tryst with JFK was the most exciting 15 seconds of her life.

Clinton is well within the range to discuss his rating. Two terms removed is sufficient to recognize the scope of his presidency.

I disagree with Nixon. Right before and following his ouster, the country fell apart. Ford did not run on WIP (Whip Inflation Now) because there was no inflation.

The most overrated is Ronald Reagan. He is seen as a saint and highly revered by Republicans, but he set off deficit spending that has only been under control during Clinton's presidency. We are still feeling the echos of the sainted one's policies today.

Yepper Jack........JFK was my nominee for most overrated Prez for all the reasons you mentioned.

Got one for underrated?

Most Over Rated. JFK is a great candidate, but he is number two.

Number One over rated president is FDR. Under rated: Nixon without a doubt.

The most traitorous president in all history after FDR who worked directly for Joe Stalin (See Venona Cables) is GW Bush who has done more than any other president to betray the American blue collar worker and the Consititution of the United States to foreign interests. Behind him is Bilk Linton and Jimmy Carter vying strongly for 2d place.

I disagree about Reagan. He set up things so that Clinton could look good. Clinton was set to blow it but he was brought back into line in '92 when he got a Republican Congress.

He was a sell-out. League of Nations, anyone? Bad news.
