Barack Obama's move to the center
by RCH1

Conventional wisdom has always been that once you win the support of your party, a successful candidate will move towards the center to try to capture the moderate and uncommitted voters. And while some here on KFS are arguing that he has done no such thing - that he is simply restating as "aspect" of what he has always said about his position on Iraq, for example, the far left sees his actions far differently.

The Daily Kos, MoveOn and Huffington are not exactly "pleased" with the latest remarks by Obama on Iraq and several other of their "core issues". According to Arianna Huffington - "Moving to the middle is for Losers". Clearly they want him to stay to the Left where THEY feel comfortable.

The Lefts hatred for Bush and, by association McCain, is clearly a significant motivating factor in their support for Barack and they are firmly against any moves on the part of Obama which they see as giving ground on such issues as the immediate withdrawl of US forces from Iraq, repudiation of NAFTA and FISA, Gun Control, Abortion Rights and the Death Penalty.

It is their postion that with the solid backing of the growing number of liberal Democratic voters, tired of the "politics of the past", Obama does not need to cater to more moderate voters and should ignore any advice to move away from his previous hardline rhetoric which got him the nomination.

I guess time will tell. Personally, I want a President that represents ALL of the people, not just those on the Far Left. I want one that can work with Conservatives, Moderates and Liberals to do what is best for ALL Americans - not just those represented by MoveOn, KOS and Huffington.

THAT candidate , who could work with everyone is hillary clinton

who was IN the center from beginning to end

The funny thing about MoveOn
by Phoen-X

Is their high endorsement of Barak Obama!

A lot of the anti-Clinton folks have been having some bad luck of there own, and I guess MoveOn is no exception.

While Hillary WAS the better candidate
by RCH1

for a number of reasons including the fact that she had extensively more political experience and broader popular support in those states which actually matter in the General Election - I also think it would be disasterous now to have her emerge from the DNC convention AS the candidate.

I think we already have a disaster,Ron. No one to vote for and the scare tactics are coming from the Dems now.

There is still a long way to go before November. The McCain campaign is struggling to find a central and cohesive message. In the mean time, Obama is managing to take over some of McCain's positions as his own - leaving less room for McCain to to maneuver in the Center.

Every Democrat who has ever been elected has had to move
by MasterJay

to the center after the primaries, look at Clinton...

Hillary started at the center and tried to move left to win the nomination. If she hadn't have listened to Bill and had voted agaist the war she'd be the nominee today.

The center is where the elections are won, like it or not...that's the fact...the primaries are won appealing to the left fringe if you're a Democrat, the right if you're a Republican.. the fringe groups are the ones who vote in the primaries, that's always been true....look at what McCain has done to win the Republican primary.McCain doesn't even resemble the same candidate he was in 2000 yet he is now the nominee,he's chased after the right wing evangelicals that he renounced in 2000.

uh, hillary won more VOTES in the primary dude..forget that?

3 or 4 times that I've found just today.

No Republicans were going to cross over to vote for Senator Clinton,a lot are given the choice of McCain over Obama...

Thank God we'll never know if you're right, but time will tell.

Hillary made a DRAMATIC move to the center some time ago and she has really pulled the lies off well. We all know she is left of MARX so whatever she has said that has placed her toward the center has been just so much GUMMAGOO!!

But it was alright when Reagan and Bush for 16 years only represented the fat cats on Wall Street, the military contractors, and the fundamentalists, and didn't listen to or benefit other Americans. That was OK when it was a Republican president doing it, but it's not OK when a Democrat does it.

A majority of Americans were happy with the Reagan years while they are equally displeased with Bush, especially his second term. But the real question is will Obama represent the Far Left or ALL of America ? That is the question he has yet to answer.
