Obama War Switch?

Hardly! The recent headlines about Obama's timeline for ending the war being open to adjustment is pretty much what he said initially when describing the method he would utilize, - that method being working toward that goal dependent on conditions on the ground. He noted way back when that adjustments would be made for conditions. He has proven that he meant what he said not what others thought or pretend he meant.

The opposition pretends a good game but in reality they are still stuck with the McCain's hundred year war plan while Obama supporters have a candidate that appears to be a step up from the norm we have come to expect in politics. That Obama does weigh the realities and adjusts is exactly what he said he would do when discussing timelines initially. Results for his research are not in yet so stop trying to guess the outcome. In fact that was even discussed here in Slate way back when. One thing I will say for McCain, this may be the one thing he doesn't flip on - The McCain hundred year war.

Exactly, i can't figure out what the right wing echo chamber (AND the MSM) are talking about.

Is Obama moving slightly to the center? Of course.. it's what you do when a general election begins.

Has he said anything significantly different about Iraq than what he's been saying for the past 18 months?

No.

wow Mary, so you have sold yourself out to the Obama spin. I thought you had more integrity than that. Both candidates are saying we will be down in troops big time by 2013. And it isn't McCain that is talking about Obama flip flopping, unless they have gotten to Huffington.

Good Lord you cool aid drinkers need to get a grip.

LOL! Yes, the whole Obama Iraq flip flop is as untrue as the assertion that McCain wants the war to last 100 years. Funny how you decry the Republicans' specious assertion while embracing your side's...

All politicians play politics.. call it lying if you will, but that's what they do.

I'll still take his smarts with regard to diplomacy and ending this war any day of the week over either Hilly's or McSame's.

And comparatively, his flipping and flopping absolutely pales in comparison to Grandpa's.

Also, the FISA bill does NOT protect telecom giants from being taken to court.

Mary, what really annoys me about this is the way the media Thursday breathlessly reported that Obama had changed his stance. Remember that it was the media who kept asking the rediculous question of all democratic candidates in the primary of "when" they would bring the troops home. questions like this are traps in my opnion, and I do think Obama did try not to fall into that trap, but apparently the media acts as if he promised 16 weeks and not an hour later. It would have been better if they had asked 'How" they were going to bring the troops homes, but now they have a news story.

Of course we know that McCain has no motivation to get out, so he doesn't even have a plan for it. But people tend to ignore that fact.

Obama's relevant quote...
by Doubter

“We must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in.”

It was probably a mistake for Obama to lay out such a detailed timeline when he did...But a good leader is one who can change his view to account for new information and changes on the ground.

The bottom line we need leadership of the best and the brightest, not of the mediocre and privleged, and Obama is the only candidate for this office who offers that.

Re: Morning mare..

Correcto. What they are actually saying imo is they weren't listening. lol

Nothing new here but the focus on what he has already said. It is indeed being highlighted by the Obama camp for that necessary need to reach the middle. Thankfully the groundwork was laid way back when, when the opposition wasn't listening.

Re: Obama War Switch?
by marylb
Well I had no choice. He had already said basically the same thing early on and it was already discussed so it would have been hard for me to pretend I didn't discuss the same thing back then. Next time listen to me. lol
apparently i KNOW more about than YOU do stinky
by dems rock

yeah ill call it lying....because that is what it is....after all the name calling of hillary and HER truthfulness and here he just bald face LIES and you guys want to give him a pass??? typical hypocritical bull

and I WASNT the one who presented myself as different with the stupid hope and "change" mantra

THAT was obama

NOW he gets to PAY for lying....he MAY get some centrists votes at the peril of making his CORE constiuants mad and stay home...if he keep this lying up

i dont know WHERE you get your info

but the fisa bill DOES include retroactive immunity to telecoms....JUST what obama said he would filibuster

Mary, expect to be instantly labeled as anti-American, stupid, naive, commie or other insulting or erroneous tags when you speak out against the republican (read Bush) agenda. There are only two types here really, those who have had their eyes open the last 8 years and those who haven't.

Happily, I have 20/20 vision, and it appears to me, you do as well.

Ummmm. I specifically and purposely mentioned the hundred year war. You'll have to think a bit HST because you almost got it.
The Official Position of Senator Obama on Iraq
by HellFire

"I will begin to remove our troops from Iraq immediately. I will remove one or two brigades a month, and get all of our combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months".

<link>

I do not see any wiggle room.

16 Months, and All Combat Troops are out of Iraq... no if's, and's, or but's.

Re: Obama War Switch?
by marylb
Since the wiggle room dependent on conditions were vocalized by him from day one, this whole pile on is rather funny. The media will do what the media does. The next round will be counter media reminding folks of exactly what he said even from the beginning so it is all much ado about nothing.
