Obama suggests he may "refine" his Iraq policy...

FARGO, North Dakota (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama left open the possibility on Thursday of revising his 16-month timetable for withdrawing U.S. combat forces from Iraq, saying he could "refine" his stance after he visits the country.

One more smack in the face to the lefties! This guy is good. he's doing a textbook pivot to the center and doing it blatantly and relentlessly (it seems he "refines" about a position a day). But it certainly puts the lie to the idea that he is some sort of "post partisan" new kind of politician. I guess that whole schtick was bullshit too...

He might pivot himself out of an election victory.

There's definitely no shortage of dumb fraylibs... but there are a few decent ones around

(they know who they are)

I said a long time ago that Obama will not pull out of Iraq. He was pandering, he knows we can't leave, and he knows we will be there in some capacity for years to come.

or this?

or this?

At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire recently Republican nominee John McCain responded to an audience question on Social Security privatization by saying, "I am not for quote 'privatization of Social Security.' I never have been, never will be.”

The statement contradicts, however, earlier comments McCain has made in support of the privatization of Social Security. In 2004, for example, McCain said, "Without privatization, I don't see how we can possibly over time make sure that young Americans can receive Social Security benefits."

More recently, last March, John McCain told the Wall Street Journal that he would pursue President Bush's policies on privatizing Social Security. “As part of Social Security reform," he reportedly stated, "I believe that private savings accounts are a part of it – along the lines that President Bush proposed."

Or when he opposed Bush tax cuts for wealthy (McCains characterization) before he claimed to have always supported them?

Or when he was opposed to US using torture, before he supported Bush's veto on banning it for the CIA?

Obama's no political dummy. He will do whatever he has to do to win.

But we've seen that he has no qualms about throwing just about anyone under the bus for a forward political move for himself.

This is both good and bad. It's good in that a person who doesn't dig their heels in (like GW seems to do) and keep a bad policy even when everyone knows it's bad. It's not so good if, down the line, we discover he has no backbone or that someone else is calling the shots for him.

It's a wait and see at this point.

But for now, moving to the center is required if he wants to win in November. I wonder if he'll lose any far leftists that thought their day had finally come? Will they think he's just lying now to get votes? Will that lying be okay with them? Will they even consider that he may have been lying to them?

Problem is that now we can't really know when he is pandering or when he is saying what he thinks...........maybe he's always pandering.

He's a good politician. That's for sure. He seems to know when to dodge and when to weave.

Well Jen (Hi btw) it's not a good thing if he knew all along he was going to adopt this stance and only said that he wanted us out immediately to excite the net roots crowd so he could secure the nomination. Changing your mind whan the facts change is one thing. Taking a position you don't believe in for political purposes is quite another. All these recent "refinements" smell an awful lot to me like the latter...

Obama is dishonest... there's no doubt about it

I believe that everything he does is for a political purpose. Everything from joining that church he later had to run away from..........to this latest "change' on Iraqi policy.

Everything he does reeks of political opportunism.

That means he will throw any of us under the bus if he needs to do it (not necessarily for the good of the country).

Hi, lukey.

There's no doubt in my mind about that.

yep just like that warden...

So where's the "change" ? Where's this "different" kind of politician? Because all I see is the same old same old, in DC only he has speech skills. No change anywhere in sight so far.

Dems live on lies, Jen
by parthecourse

They were born and raised on lies and really have a problem believing the truth.

Poor education and the Union bosses made sure that Dems stayed dumb enough to mold into a breed of contempt...
