Allegedly hard-to-find bras
by Pink_House

Good news for braless breasts everywhere seeking comfort and support.

After reading enough posts where the complaint was that the poster coudn't find a bra large enough to fit her or in her price range, I tried googling "bra size 36J (or whatever)." The first site I clicked on carried a variety of styles in those really difficult sizes. Yes, the colors were limited to white and beige and black, but that's usually true for basic, supportive bras even in the more "common" sizes.

Most of these bras were under $40.00. The bras in the higher price point tend to be designer ones. I have found that bras, like shoes, swimsuits and jeans are not one size fits all. Not every size 6 1/2 sandal or size 27 jean fits my body, but if I make an effort, I can find some that are comfortable and look good. Apply that idea to bra shopping ladies.

I hear you. Sometimes I'm a little too big for B cup but I'm floating around in a C. You should see how many bras I take into the fitting room at Victoria's Secret. Sometimes I spot a cute little lacy number and I bring it into the fitting room and the horror neither the B or the C fit!

I have to try on jeans. I'm long waisted and not everything fits. If it goes around my waist, it's too baggy in the ass.

I'm curious how you know that the bras offer comfort and good support? Is it because the website said? Cause you know there are also websites out there that say they can give you top of the line drugs for pennies. And others that can double the size of a man's penis! I'm starting to think that maybe some of those websites talk up their products a little more than is true....

Your point about trying things on is a good one. Tell me, what are the return policies for these online stores that you found? Because if you have to buy 5 $30 bras to find one that fits... well you are out $150 for a single bra no matter what the cost on the tag is. And if you actually do find a store that will take opened returns, do you really want to be wearing a bra that some other anonymous stranger did anonymous things in for a couple days?

But! you say, once you pay $150 for that first bra you have a source for life. Un huh... Because small websites that sell things to a special nitch market do tend to have a lot of staying power right? More likely you'll just have to find another online store and buy another 5 bras the next time you need to stock up.

You can Google and find all kinds of things out there. But you might be surprised to know that often times they don't correlate to real world practicality.

Way back when, I worked at Macy's in the lingerie department and learned how to fit bras.

While I wouldn't randomly buy from a website, I will buy reputable brands. I've always been a 32D or a 32DD and know that I get the best support from the full-figured types with 3 hooks in the back and full cups. Other styles look really sexy and, so have their place, but for all-around, everyday, the ones with the high stiffer side panels and 3 hook closures are best.

About age 39 or so, I noticed that while I stayed the same cup size, my shape was different. The fitters at Nordstrom said it was common among women my age to start wearing a different type of bra.

By the way, I'm not very comfortable yet with being overtly snarky; however, my post was aimed at the women who claimed that they couldn't find anything in their size or that, if they did, the bra was exorbitantly priced. That's what prompted my google search. I wanted to know what I was talking about before implying that they weren't trying hard enough (or just whining.)

Yup you got that right. Not trying hard enough AND whining. Some people are full of excuses.

I'm with you Pink, I can buy a bra by sight. I know what I need. Just like shoes, I can take one look at them and tell if and how they'll fit. Come to think of it, I can do that with clothes, too, which comes in handy at the Salvation Army, which does not have dressing rooms. Usually I just go there wearing a leotard top over my bra so if there's something I'm iffy about I can just throw it on over the clothes right there at the rack and better judge.

btw, Susan's a good egg. I think she just has bra rage.

Well if you wouldn't randomly buy from a website - what use are those websites you Googled? Do you not see how much you are contradicting yourself?
