Honest Political Talk About Israel
by viewpoint
A bit more honest talk about Israel's pull on America's foreign policy starts to emerge as Israel tries to drag the U.S. into war with Iran. My gratitude to the commentators with the guts to stand up to the Israeli lobby so well documented by Walt & Mersheimer.

The world cannot afford to succumb to the US-Israel military-industrial complex and Jewish and Christian religious fanatics.

"As our political establishment takes new and disturbing steps towards a more confrontational approach with Iran, the effort to stomp out any discussion of the role Israel plays in that policy has once again intensified.
...
This attempt to “punish” people who note the role which allegiance to Israel plays in many advocates’ desire for a militaristic American Middle East policy has always been an attempt to punish people for expressing a self-evidently true and important point."

Yep. It would be so much easier, cheaper, and better in the long run to let Israel get wiped off the map.

I gave the original post thorough and careful consideration, and exactly the response it merited.

It would be easier, cheaper, more just, and more humane for Israel to abandon its apartheid policies. If you consider that "wiping Israel off the map", so be it.

Why do we support Israel? Because many American Christians and Jews view it as the Holy Land. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Our government has no business basing its foreign policies on religious ideologies.

Really? Here I was thinking it was because it was the only real democracy with a developed economy in a region that is vital to our strategic interest to not only us but also the rest of the Western World. Unless of course you have some magic bullet theory that is going to get the world off an oil based economy over night?....

What use is it to us to be friends with the only non-oil-producing country in the region? All they do is suck up vast amounts of our money.

So, by your logic, we should also be giving vast amounts of money to Great Britain, because they have a democracy.

Is Britain surrounded on all sides-- and troubled within its borders as well-- by openly hostile states supported by every murderous tyrant in the region?

Have you ever seen a map of the Middle East?

You actually are this stupid, aren't you?

So what if Israel is surrounded by hostile countries? It all comes down to the fact that many people view Israel as "The Holy Land." If it weren't for that, we wouldn't give two shits about Israel, and you know it. It's foreign policy driven by religious beliefs, which is a very bad thing. Besides, calling Israel a democracy is a bit of a stretch by our definition of the word.

"It all comes down to the fact that many people view Israel as "The Holy Land."

That you are either stupid enough or ignorant enough-- smart money says both-- to continue to assert that as though it is fact doesn't make it so, little one.

Calling me stupid and ignorant while offering no refutation of my assertions doesn't say much for your side of the argument, "little one."
