It would be easier, cheaper, more just, and more humane for Israel to abandon its apartheid policies. If you consider that "wiping Israel off the map", so be it.

Here I was thinking it was because it was the only real democracy with a developed economy in a region that is vital to our strategic interest to not only us but also the rest of the Western World. Unless of course you have some magic bullet theory that is going to get the world off an oil based economy over night?....

So what if Israel is surrounded by hostile countries? It all comes down to the fact that many people view Israel as "The Holy Land." If it weren't for that, we wouldn't give two shits about Israel, and you know it. It's foreign policy driven by religious beliefs, which is a very bad thing. Besides, calling Israel a democracy is a bit of a stretch by our definition of the word.
