Why carry a gun at an airport?
by HennaRinse

Receiving no reply from guns right supporters yesterday, I'll ask again.

Georgia passed a law giving people with a concealed weapons permit to carry them into restaurants, state parks and public transportation.

Why is it necessary to carry a gun, in light of the fact the 9/11 highjackers brought down 4 planes with box cutters, into an airport?

Are you asking that question sarcastically? Like, "gee, how would a gun have helped against guys with Boxcutters?" Or, are you seriously that stupid?

You can't read, seriously.

Perhaps you can't write...

Or are making a confused point? Perhaps you meant to say, "why would it be neccessary to carry a gun when a lesser weapon will work as well?" I'm not sure, I always have a tough time following the prose of functional illiterates.

..shoot the place up for shits-n-giggles?

I mean, that's what a "Typical (gun-owning) White Person" would do...right?

For the reading impaired:

Do you want to make it easier for terrorists to take down planes? Bringing guns into the terminal makes that more likely.

Are we clear now?

...public to carry a gun at an airport.

There is generally no valid reason why many people would need to carry a concealed weapon, in my opinion.

Thanks to the conservative Supreme Courts' recent ruling they have contributed to already increasing danger to the general public and law enforcement officials.

The gun lobby is now out in full-force attempting to repeal important gun control efforts of many communities - it is truly sad.

Why are you at the airport?
by Cerulean_Mutt

If you picking up a friend or relative that's just arrived, there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't bring your gun if you have a conceal / carry permit. TSA wouldn't let you through security without a boarding pass anyway, so having a gun in the non secure area of an airport terminal shouldn't be a problem.

Now if you're boarding a flight and try to bring a gun through TSA screening, you'd better cancel your travel plans because the TSA & Airport Police are gonna want to have a little talk with you down at the police station.

No, I can see no reason for it. On Today's Papers I made this same post. One of the replies: Because we can.

Gun rights supporters are in denial that their right infringes on our safety. Any gun can be taken from the owner. Allowing them, concealed on the grounds of an airport, puts our security in jeopardy.

I agree, with the Supreme Court behind them, they will work against any effort to control guns.

Guns still would not be allowed in the parking lot, so carrying one to pick up someone, is not an issue. In order to get into the airport with the gun, a person has to ride the train into the terminal.

You bring up a good point, what happens when they go through the security check point? Where does the gun go? Not every gun owner is going to understand that part of the law.

Pretty sure most gun owners are aware...
by Cerulean_Mutt

that you can't bring a gun on a plane. If you even try to bring one through the TSA check point, you'll get arrested.

If they aren't aware of it, well then they deserve to get arrested.

Common sense laws to protect citizens from terrorists and criminals gets thrown out the window and illegal wiretaps on law abiding American citizens becomes legal. These right wing slime will have us driven back into the dark ages before long.

There are always people who will misunderstand and could create more problems and very possibly a dangerous situation because they have guns where they don't belong or don't have a permit to carry. They will definitely get arrested, but we have to hope nobody gets injured or killed.
Re: Why carry a gun at an airport?

A very good point. Gun rights supporters refuse to understand that the presence of their weapon introduces danger into any situation. Bringing them into an already sensistive area, like an airport, is welcoming a disaster.

The factious answer of course is my legally licensed firearm has killed fewer people than Teddy (the swimmers) Kennedy's car.

It used to be that the toughest gun law in the nation was New York's Sullivan Law. Of course DC and Mass. have now exceed the stupidity of New York. That's where the statement: Dumber than a New York Democrat comes from.

There has been no diminishing of crime as a result of this law. What diminished crime was Thomas Dewey R NY as a reform prosecutor sending a bunch of thugs to ride the lightening.

A thug, dealer, or base criminal can be fairly assured that his victim is unarmed. Now you as a liberal have criminal tendencies, that's why you are a liberal. So are you going to burglarize my house where you now both I and my wife are armed, or will you burglarized the two fags next door that would faint at the sight of a pistol. Food for thought there dolt isn't it.
