The ellipse in the second quotation from Gen. Clark is significant because it leaves out Bob Schieffer's comment to which Clark was replying. Schieffer responded to Clark's statement about McCain not having executive experience by saying that Obama had never gotten in a fighter and been shot down. In that context, Clark's statement makes sense. Scheiffer raised the issue of being shot down as a qualification and Clark gave what is an honest and truthful, as it turns out, response.
