iranians would unite against the coalition of fools, the usa and israel. they are very nationalistic. they hate american foreign police with good reason. the usa's cia ovorthrew their democratically elected government and installed the shah. when they over therw the shah we back the shah. we backed iraq against them.

blitzkreig will not work. where are we going to stage the troops for that? as if we are going to accomplish all those objectives without getting wacked back bad.

By all accounts, the average Iranian is remarkably well disposed towards America and Americans. They wish in the worst way, for us to "do the right thing", and they dream of becoming a legitimate part of the modern western world.

Alas though...they're no different from most of we nationals. And the surest way of turning the Iranian people away from us and back into the embrace of the Mullahs, would be for us to invade their nation.

On that note, I remember reading a piece by an American journalist who spent 6 months or so a few years back, in Iran. He noted a remarkable dissonance between the people's public displays of America-angst, and the way he was recieved by Iranian individuals. One Friday, a gaggle of his newly minted Iranian friends went off for the morning, to rally and chant "Death to America" in the public square. Upon their return, the journalist asked them what was up with all that? He thought they were friends? And did they REALLY want death for America? His friends told him to just ignore all that and that they really were all friends. They just go down there every Friday to do the chanting thing, because the government gives them a free lunch afterwords!

I was in engineering school with a bunch of Iranian middle class guys (and one female) and we were pretty good buddies, as far as that goes.

I don't know what the majority of Iranians felt about America, but these guys were straddling the fence. They hated the Shah and blamed us for all that repression, but they were also very secular and loved the whole American economy.

I think this is fairly representative of all the world. They feel we would be the greatest nation in the world and a model for the rest of the world if we would just learn to behave ourselves.

And didn't know shit about that either.

Iran would sic their Iraqi dogs on our troops in Iraq. The mujahadeen, who are not Iranian allies, but are opportunists would then hit our Afghan flank

We don't have the muscle to fight the two wars we have in the middle east, where would we get the muscle to attack Iran. If we did, we would lose what few allies we have in the world.

We are still fighting Iraq's Republican Guard which was about 100,000. and the Saddam Fedhyeen some 20,000.

Why would you want to start still another war against a country that poses no threat to us? Really, what did they ever do to us? Yes, a very angry mob did take Americans prisoner in '79, but that was after the US, under President Carter, backed the shah when he should have been supporting pro-Democracy groups.

Israel attacked a US naval vessel and murdered a bunch of Americans during the '6 Day War'. The Israeli government murdered an American activist who opposed the destruction of Palestinian homes. In those cases, American lives were lost. What should we do about that?

The real issue is what we really want: war or peace. Yeah, we can spend some years blowing up things with all of our military might, but is that what America is about.
