How to lose an election
by ThatSo
John Kerry during the early part of his presidential campaign wore a flight jacket and saluted everyone everywhere he went. He did this as a strategy to play up his war hero image. Was this a winning strategy? Unfortunatly for Kerry his post war comments allowed the swiftboat veterans to effectively diminish his hero status. I'm not saying Kerry was right or the swiftboaters were right. I'm just commenting on it as a political strategy. If Obama wants to win in November it would be wise for him and his supporters to not even mention the issue of McCain's war service. This is a no win for Obama. Most americans view that what McCain went through in Viet Nam makes him a war hero or at least close to it. Any time the subject is brought up only allows McCain to contrast his service to the lack of service by Obama. Many of the posters here only show their emotional side and don't think about how to best approach a logical winning strategy.

I see your point. But if you think about it; John Kerry actually had an admirable war record compared to George W. Bush's rather shadowy service record. Who won?

You never know in politics. Bill Clinton was assaulted as a draft dodger. George H.W. Bush had an admirable war record. Who won?

and remember, Clinton's wins were NEVER by a majority.

Nor was George W's first win.
