Biden, Bayh, Webb, Nunn, Edwards, Graham & Rendell
by john adkisson

We should not pretend that the list of Obama VP candidates is endless.

He needs policy and political stength and he doesn't like Clinton. Chris Dodd and Wesley Clark have screwed up. Mark Warner and Ted Stirckland have made Shermanesque statements. Kain & Sebelius are too lightweight. Bill Richardson's mouth is too dangerous

This leaves:

  1. Joe Biden
  2. Evan Bayh
  3. Jim Webb
  4. Sam Nunn
  5. Ed Rendell
  6. John Edwards
  7. Bob Graham

Take it to the bank.

I think that Rendell and Edwards are serious when they say that they don't want the job. Webb's literary canon leaves him open to a sexual morality swift-boating campaign. Why doesn't anyone mention Vilsack as a possibility? I guess he doesn't have the foreign policy resume?

Have you heard the rumor about McCain wooing Bill Gates?

Webb is likely the best. He's risky in some ways because he's controversial. He's said things now and then that made people mad but he's controversial for the RIGHT REASONS.It'll be hard to "swift boat" Webb because he's got the pro-military credentials that Kerry didn't.One thing people don't understand about the "working class" is that they have no deep loyalty to the Clintons;Clinton''s working class support existed in the primaries only as an alternative to Obama. Those "hard working" Americans tend to be conservative on social issues and on national security issues but liberal on economic issues.John Edwards might not have caught on with them, even had he won Iowa because much of his support was coming largely from anti-war Democrats who were pretty liberal on all issues.Webb,if chosen, will not be greeted with enthusiasm by all Democrats but will appeal in the long run to those swing Democrats who've deserted the party so often in recent years.

Graham likely would have won for us in 2004;Kerry blew it by picking Edwards and then not letting Edwards BE Edwards.

John, I continue to believe that Biden is the most logical choice. I also heard a new reason last night for Biden that I hadn't previously considered, he is Catholic.

From what I understand Biden wants the job badly but I doubt he will get it, he just not made for Television and will undoubtedly get himself into trouble.

Forget Edwards, the weasel wants to be attorney general anyway (god help us).

Webb is a bit of a loose cannon, not sure how good of a campaigner he is though. I mean really how hard was it to beat the love child of Jim Neighbors anyway?.

Rendell would have been good as the nominee himself (as well as Bayh) but like so many in the Dem party was convinced this was Hilliary year and sat the election out. He will not be anyone's second string.

I would go with Bayh or Nunn.

As for McCain he should go with the Governor Jindahl (sp) or Palin of Alaska of course the problem with her is she brings him no electoral help whatsoever and she just had a baby (in other words she has a life).

Your list doesn't have Bob Casey.

I agree with the Palin remark; I quite like her as a running mate (I'm not fond of McCain, himself though). I think her recent addition to her family may help her, not harm her; it makes her relatable, especially in that her child has Down's.

I do wish there was a more viable female candidate for Obama to choose. I also wish they'd hurry up and figure this out, November isn't that far away.

mrliberal;

I haven't rated Casey in the past because his support for Obama in Pennsyslvania is well established and he is a weak speaker. I also don't know if he balances Obama out in ways needed. I have Rendell as a stronger pick for Pennsyslvania.

Most importantly, Casey is anti-choice which would freak out the base, although he would help with the Catholic vote. Biden would do that too.

All in all, I don't think he is a possibility. Bayh provides the same profile without being anti-choice.
