Maureen Down fan here...
by Caerolle

Wow, deja vu re: Rebecca Walker! (I like her writing, and everyone else seems to feel she is a hack)

I have always loved Maureen Downd's columns. I find her to be bright, funny, observant, and insightful. Yes, she usually uses sarcasm and hyperbole as her method, but I do kinda like that contrarian approach. To me, she is a strong, smart woman who does what she wants, and I like that. I am disappointed then her column does appear in the Times, and am always excited when I see she has column that day.

But then I almost always see things differently from most everyone else in any context, so I may be wrong...

A quick scan of the NYT opinion page had her writing nearly 50 columns since last summer. Nearly every one skewered someone who was either in the primary race or Bush's inner circle. Its amazing that this has gone on for so long! So many candidates who I'd (thankfully!) forgotten.

NY Times (October 30, 2005) for a better understanding of her views. These columns are just equal opportunity political hatchet jobs. To accuse her of sexism says more about the person's political preferences than anything else.

Slawrence,

Thanks so much for the link! I somehow missed this article when it came out! Now I have a nice long piece to read!

Thanks!

Carolle :)
