Short and Sweet... They were dog friendly when you interviewed, dog friendly when you accepted and dog friendly since. Get a new job where you fit in better and stop trying to force others to conform to you.

Who ever heard of a "dog friendly" office environment?? I certainly haven't! What kind of establishment would allow such a thing?

Please, someone enlighten me. Does this type of thing actually occur in the modern office? Have we really "gone to the dogs"???

(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

My sister works in an office where people can bring their dogs to work. It really helped when she adopted her new dog from the shelter because he had abandonment issues.

Any office that allows dogs (as my first job did) is obviously a fairly open-minded, alternative kind of place. I have a hard time believing that this office has been successful if, as you claim, the phones are being unanswered and the dogs are as uncontrollable. You are obviously not happy. Move on.

I could just not have been paying attention, but did he say it was an actual office? I bring my dog to work with me! (however, I also take him on regular potty breaks and he is very well trained so he doesn't bark, jump, or do any of the other annoying doggy behaviors) My coworkers miss him when he's gone. :)

I agree he should be more patient since this obviously isn't a new thing, but I know firsthand what havoc an untrained dog can ensue. If I had to be constantly cleaning up little presents left on the floor I'd be frustrated too! I'd also be curious to know why his co-workers bring their dogs to work with them. Some might have a more valid reason other than "I want to." But I think it's just bad manners to bring an uncontrollable mess into a place of business. Most bosses would not tolerate a yelling banshee of a toddler knocking things over and disrupting things.(exaggeration) Dogs are not very different! Perhaps he should find a reputable trainer nearby and give business cards out freely.

"Oh, Fluffy just pissed on that plant? My friend Dave can fix that problem for you!"

Donna,

Way to be uptight! Of course there are dog-friendly offices, just like there are flip-flop friendly offices, small radio-friendly offices, casual Friday offices, and your stereotypical button-and-tie offices.

The trick is to accept a job with an office that suits you and your workstyle. Clearly, this guy picked an office that doesn't fit his preferences, which is his fault, not theirs.

People like him (and you, apparently) should just stick to workplaces with more finicky policies, rather than exclaim at the horrors of a happy, puppy-friendly office.

I can't believe the complaining, dog friendly offices are very special and very rare, none of them should be shut down! Honestly even though I have a dog, I wouldn't work in one because I have bad allergies, but that is your choice. If you don't like dogs don't work in a dog friendly place! In your field there is probably one dog friendly office and several thousand offices with no dogs. Just go to one of them. You may think people aren't very productive, but I've worked with people who have to go all the way home at lunch to check on their dogs or have to pay a lot of money for them to be watched while they're away. I cannot believe how selfish both the asker and prudie are behaving. Why shut down something that is good for 30 people who were there before you just because you are dumb enough to accept a position where you knew you would be miserable.

What I would like to see is the "cat friendly office" LOL

There ARE some 'dog friendly' offices & workplaces. Most places aren't, so this guy that is finding them a distraction should try for another job where the atmosphere is 'all business' instead of allowing distractions. I'd prefer the 'dog friendly' office environment myself. I'd be the sort who would get more done by: work, pet a doghead, more work than if I were stuck under tight deadlines to work under.

:o)

ArtemisMS, I used to work at a cat friendly office- they had two live-in cats. One of them used to lounge on my desk. It was about the only thing I liked about that job.

When I was looking for an apartment I stopped by a leasing office that had a cat. The guy had 'joked' to me that it was the meanest cat ever. I didn't believe him so I started playing with the cat while I waited. The cat got mad and spent the next 10 minutes trying to bite me! He'd walk at me from one direction and I'd push him away, he'd try another direction.....

Cat friendly just means the cat knows it owns the place :)
