Fray question

How would an Israeli strike on Iran in late October 2008 effect the election?
Re: Fray question
by LT-7

I think it would depend on whether Bush joined in and struck Iran as well. If he did, he would probably declare that he had to stay in office and cancel the election.

Otherwise, I think Obama would still win. Obama is just a better choice and it is so obvious that he would have to work at losing the election hard.

I suspect it would be cause for

Bush to declare war on Iran and stay in power.
To hell with the election
by Stayin'Arrive
it would cause World War III.
Bush can't stay in power.
by checkm8r

Even if he invaded Europe.

The American people wouldn't put up with it.

And even you chowder heads know that.

Talk about fear mongering.

It wouldn't help mccain at all

You have to remember the two major lies that bush's war against Iraq was built upon.

First, the idea that Iraq was a threat. Iran is much more dangerous than Iraq, but still not in any position to attack the US.

Second, the war was sold on the concept that war could be fought cheaply and easily. With that concept dashed, selling people on the need for a war against Iran has been impossible.

Doubtful
by Smiley1979

China and Russia may like Iran's oil, but they're not in a position to launch a war against America.

I'm glad to say that the days of major land wars is over, the new paradigm is loosely affiliated bands of nonstate actors using guerilla/terrorist tactics. Nothing on the scale of WWI or WWII. Claiming otherwise is an insult to the tens of millions that died in those wars.

Its late...too late for going into geo-politics. Maybe tomorrow.

But I have to ask, how is it possible that according to you folks anything said, no matter what, no matter how simple, is an insult to somebody?

He has arranged for that ability in legislation.
by LT-7

It would take a Supreme Court decision determining the legislation to be unconstitutional to change it and they haven't even looked into it.

While he had a Republican rubberstamp Congress and a scared public, they passed legislation providing for exactly the scenario I am talking about and it has not been changed.

The question was if Israel attacked Iran. If Iran attacks Israel, then Israel is more than capable of defending itself. But Israel starting a war isn't going to convince the American people to join up.

He is wrong about Waco, as are you. They were aiding two government agencies, not conducting war on the public.
So you suggest we wouldn't

come to the aid of our staunch ally Israel? Especially if they were taking lots of casualties?
