African Problems
by redleopard

Lots of stuff in the news about many troubled nations in Africa these days. Lots of talk & rhetoric about getting help from Europe, America and the UN to solve these problems.

I say let the other African nations handle their internal problems on their continent. Besides; Europe and America have enough "white blame & guilt trips" going on without having to add more to it.

Dear Sir-or-Ma'am:

I think you should sit down, becuase what I'm going to say will no doubt shock you to the very depth of your being. I'll wait ....

Ready? TV and movies ARE NOT REAL!!! Jerry and George never went to get lunch at the coffee shop, Peter Parker never invented web-slingers, and all of the garbage you see on-screen - whether or not "based on true events" - never actually happened.

The first poster, though with some unnecessary rhetoric, made what I thought were decent points about the propriety and utility of Americna meddling in African affairs. If you have points that would refute him, then let's here them. But a glib reference to a crappy Hollowood movie is not the way to get anyone to take you seriously.

Your right; I didn't watch Charlie Wilson's War. But from what I gather its just another example of war profiteering at other's expenses.

Why should Americans and Europeans care about Africa?

Well, China has been investing heavily in Africa because Africa is a contintent which a large amount of untapped unnatural resources. It's also a continent that is ripe for manufacturing, urban development, etc, agricultural development, etc. And don't forget the number of Africans who will become consumers of Chinese goods and the countries there that will have China's back.

If its too much to ask Americans to take and interest in the "dark continent" out of sense of altruism, then perhaps we should think think about it out of a sense of self-preservation. In order for any economy to grow, you must cultivate new markets, and unfortunately, there aren't that many more places on planet where we can sell our junk. No company is really going to want to invest in a country that's completely unstable and ruled by a crazy dictator who sees nothing wrong with murdering a large percentage of the working class. Which is why the U.S. should get involved; to make the world safe for demo-uh-capitalism.

And at least under capitalism vs. a colonial economy, the workers have to make some sort of money so they consume more goods.

. . . to disrupt the oil supply from his country, what do you think that'll do to the price of gas? Check out recent news reports from Nigeria if you can't answer that question right away.
