PIXAR is Grasping
by redleopard
Don't get me wrong; I like PIXAR movies. But I really think they are grasping at straws with this new Wall-E movie. It reminds me in ways of that movie Short Circuit (at least the star robot does). Heck; maybe its just that as one gets older their interests change or perhaps its different generational FADS. Bring back the days of black & white sci-fi & horror shows!

That's exactly what I thought when I heard the premise of Ratatouille. "Who's going to enjoy watching a rat cook?" But then I saw it and was amazed at how good it was. (Not as good as perhaps Cars or Nemo, imo, but still very good indeed.) And, judging by the insanely high 97% fresh rating Wall-E is enjoying over at rottentomatoes.com, this must be another big winner for Pixar. Inevitably, they will someday make a misstep, but not this time.

Well perhaps your right. Like I said; its a generation thing. I did like Monsters Inc., Bug's Life and the Toy Stories though. I think many of these shows entertain adults more than they do the kiddos.

If I were going to predict where their first misstep will come, I'd go with Cars 2 which will be out in a couple years. (I'm not saying it will suck, just maybe not quite live up to expectations.)

They've only done one sequel before and hit a home run with Toy Story 2. But whereas Toy Story ended in such a way it pretty much invited a sequel, Cars concluded like they didn't really intend to revisit it again--right down to the epilogue montage showing what transpired after the main story ended. Sequels are always tough and the ones where they decide after the fact to make them are harder still. All I've seen on the story is that the cars will be "going international." If anyone can make it fly, Pixar can. But I wonder if there's enough fresh material there to live up to the original.

Just saw it last night - it is NOTHING like Short Circuit.

Far better than Short Circuit. Absolutely nothing like it. a) No lame sexual innuendos b) The robot isn't annoying c) The plot doesn't suck d) No Steve Gutenberg

I saw the movie last night. I thought they absolutely nailed Wall-E, but I didn't think they hit Eve very well.

I wouldn't put it on par with Ratatoullie or Kung Fu Panda (which was inexplicably excellent), but it was defeinitely a good movie (and much different from and better than Short Circuit).
