2nd amendment read as one not two statements

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

My reading of the amendment which takes it as a whole not two parts.

In order to keep the militia well regulated, so that it may secure our free state (without reducing the state to non-free), the people have the right to keep and bear arms.

I.E. we have guns so that the state will think twice about using the militia against us.
As the only way to disarm an armed populace is with massive brutal attacks, which is hard to do against your own. The last people we did do that to were the Germans.

no one has reported this
but it makes perfect sense to me
anyone know a constitutional lawyer we can ask?

??????????????????????????

I can see right wings not wanting to say this, as they do not like speaking against the military, and support a fascist gov.

(I love those gun supporters who tell those for gun control to leave the country, or shut up, apparently they forgot the previous amendment?? we have the right to guns, but not dissent??! Duh! that is what the guns preserve)

The left wings who should be more aware of the danger of fascist gov. don't support guns. Meanwhile it is taking so long for the ACLU to get the patriot act into the surpeme court, we may end up needing them.

If McCain wins we may need guns to go to the library. Remember the republican slogan "Keep government out of the board rooms, and in our bedrooms." We already need ID to travel in our own country just like in the old USSR. Here in NYC you can be stopped by the cops and searched (and sometimes shot) just because they feel like it, not only if you want to use the subway, but if you just want to use the street.

By the way this does not end gun control, it just ends fully banning them.

Though I wonder if we could have brought down gun violence better by funding education? People with jobs, and lives shoot less (most prisoners are functionally illiterate), and health care including mental health, and our wild lands so we have somewhere to hunt. (snow mobiles and atvs scare away game, be a man and walk there)

You take a gun from an uneducated violent criminal, and you still have an uneducated violent criminal.

well regulated state militia =national guard thus no need for homeland security.

Militia in the context of the time in the USA means military, and the national guard is hardly well regulated, they feel if they did the yahoos would opt out.

Remember the constitution is about government structure, the bill of rights about personal rights.
