Obama will sweep evangelicals
by upsidedownpoint

I think what this article fails to address is the idea that moderate evangelicals, those for whom pro-choice is not a make or break issue but who feel that religion has a place in the public square, will be voting for Obama in huge numbers. If you want truly Christian values reflected in government Obama is your man; McCain can't even compete.

I think that as amazing as Obama's straddling of the black and white worlds has been, it may be his straddling of both the liberal and the Christian worlds that impresses me most. The crazy bible-thumpers are out numbered in this country by deeply religious but ultimately humanist people; we may find that the era of the powerful hate-filled christian group is quickly and hopefully permanently receding into the past along with the Bush Nightmare.

Actual evidence to back up that...

recent polls show younger evangelicals are less concerned with abortion and gay rights...and more with the environment and alleviating poverty.

Their old leadership is dying off and its power in the GOP with it.

I think it would be a wonderful thing for this country if Obama could forge an alliance with younger religious Americans, evangelical or otherwise.

Look up the "Joshua generation" program that Obama is starting for Christian youth.
