Spin, Spin Spin
by TheRanger

Beam is pandering to the uneducated lib cool aid drinkers who he thinks will swoon over his column despite the not all that subtle spinning of facts.

He suggests that Obama has a name from Aramaic which is very interesting since Aram where the "ancient language of Aramaic" came from, is the country of Syria. Now maybe the subtlely of this was lost on you unless you remembered that the capital of Aram was Aleppo which is where Tony Rezko is from. Is Beam suggesting that Obama speaks Tony's language?

Beam also makes a big deal over Barack's name intimating that it is really a Christian name and not a Muslim name. Actually Beam has two hidden agenda's here, one to obfuscate that his name is Muslim and not ethnic and two that it is Christian. Unfortunately Beam is either truly ignorant or else prevaricating. Muslims recognize Jesus as a prophet so revering him by naming someone is not a big deal.

Beam continues to try deflect the self-created chaos of Barack by making light of his spiritual guides so one does not wonder why Barack had such confidence in losers.

Lighten up, Ranger; it was a joke. Laugh at it or don't laugh at it, but spare us the conspiratorial dissection of Beam's real motive for writing the piece. Joke vivisection makes you come off as paranoid and dense, and although I disagree with 99.9% of your posts, I don't think you are stupid.

Fun fact: Aramaic (an ancient form of it, anyway) is the language that Jesus spoke, along with a bit of Greek and Hebrew.

P.S. Rezko is no Charles Keating and that is not a fight I would advise McCain to pick.

P.P.S. To be fair, I also would not advise McCain to hire me as an advisor ;)

Re: Spin, Spin Spin

Hey, sweetie (just a joke), between Obama's I didn't really mean it that way and his spiritual and political advisor's he really never knew, it is getting boring.

Ok, maybe I don't agree with McCain on how to solve the energy problem but Obama with his hope and change for the future oricalcular mutterings about alternative energy and blaming Bush doesn't present an inspiring plan.

uneducated?

He was joking! These were jokes! He wasn't being serious. He was making things up.

I seriously doubt that Beam thought for a second that anyone believes that Obama's name is "he who loves Jesus in the ancient language of Aramaic." I also doubt that Obama is "PROUD that Jesus was an American."

Allow me to repeat. These were jokes! Maybe you do not find them funny. That doesn't change the fact that they were jokes.

As for Obama's name, it is not "Muslim." Islam is not a language, it is a religion.

"Barack" is actually believed to come from the Hebrew word "Baruch," which means "blessed" (or, perhaps more correctly, the same Semantic stock from which Hebrew comes). Hussein is an Arabic name meaning "handsome one."

Hussein is an exceptionally common name among Muslims, as well as many secularists in particular parts of the world. Similarly, names like David, Ruth, Daniel, Jacob, Benjamin, Sarah, Chloe, John, Alyssa, Anna, etc. etc. are all Biblical names though they are given to many individuals with no direct reference to their Judeo-Christian roots.

You do understand the difference between a language and a religion, correct?

Re: Spin, Spin Spin

Fair enough; any vote for a first-term president is a leap of faith regardless of the candidate's resume or (in)experience. I'm way too old and skeptical to either idolize someone (much less any politician) or to preemptively demonize someone. Supporting Obama for several reasons because I think that there has to be several 'significant course corrections' (energy, Iraq, healthcare, education) and these will need to be championed by the Executive branch and not Congress. Don't see that McCain is offering much more than slight deviations from the current course. Obama is and that's why he'll get my vote, though I'm sure if elected he will make his fair share of mistakes and missteps.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist which is why I don't spout invective about the "radical" agendas of any politician, W included. The only thing that has scared the hell out of me in my 40+ years of following politics is this cancerous theory of a unitary executive under the auspices of an ill-defined (& thus perpetual) war. Never thought in a million years that any President would be that bold or that our citizenry would so easily and fearfully acquiesce to such a blatant threat to our Constitutional checks and balances.

Well, if I said the following:

McCain's tears cure cancer. It's a pity he never cried.

Would you call it spin? lol! This whole article is riffing off of "Chuck Norris" jokes, and running with it. ;)

The premise works like this: take a likable public figure, and credit him with outrageous things. The more hyperbolic, the better. Example: "When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up - he's pushing the Earth down."

Eh, for those that accidentally took this article seriously, you guys need to hang out with the younger crowd more often. Maybe you'll absorb an absurd sense of humor, like I have. :D

Ranger: Obviously you just didn't get it. No surprise here.
Thank You

For making my point.

The number one given name in the world?

Mohammed (various spellings)

I wonder why?

"Hussein is an Arabic name meaning "handsome one." "

Arabic? Oh, you must mean like the word, "Islam" which is the Arabic word meaning submission to God.

Arabic? Oh, you must mean the adhaan which is called out 5 times a day for the faithful to perform their salatu.

Allaabu Akbar must be Yiddish.

Your ignorance of Islam is truly shocking but then again it is hard to learn things while you are drinking kool-aid all the time.

Islam traces a common root through Abraham.

Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet.

Sigh, so many libs; so little time.

PS

Beam was using satirical exageration to try to trivialize Obama's blunders.

Jokes are always innocent; just like the ones about West Virgians.

Re: Spin, Spin Spin
by TheRanger

Help us all out here.

Explain Obama's solution for the gasoline problem in particular and energy in general with something other than hope, change, and the future. Don't bother to say wind generators as THE solution.

How will Obama handle healthcare? Try to remember that brave man, Ted Kennedy, who spat into the face of incompetence and failure. The man who had a risky operation under the US healthcare system instead of going to the paradigm systems of Canada, England or Sweden. Such a risk taker.

Maybe Obama will give us all pointers on how to get better rates on mortgages through Tim Johnson. Seems strange that the head of Fannie Mae didn't know what the rates were enough to know he was getting preferential treatment. Is this one of Obama's changes, or is this the hope we have for the future.

shhesh! Talk about some kool-aid drinkers. The loons who couldn't/can't tell that this was a joke (a highly amusing one, actually) are the same people who believe the internet emails about Sen. Obama being a Muslim, or the bits about the blow-job and the crack cocaine. They just don't like it when someone else's lies contradict the lies they already believe.
Inane Rambling

Ranger, are you even aware of how incoherent you are?

I did not prove your point. Arabic is a language, Islam is a religion. Hussein is an Arabic name.

How this shows an shocking "ignorance of Islam" is anyone's guess since I didn't even discuss Islam beyond pointing out that it was a religion. Do you deny that Islam is a religion and not a language?

As for the rest of your babble.

Allaabu Akbar must be Yiddish.

An inane comment that has exactly zero relevance to the discussion at hand. Alluhaakbar is Arabic just as Baruch ata Adonai, Eloheynu Melech ha'olam is Hebrew, Vater Unser, der Du bist im Himmel is German, and Communicántes, et memóriam venerántes, in primis gloriósæ semper Vírginis Maríæ, genitrícis Dei et Dómini nostri Jesu Christ is Latin.

You see, Ranger. Arabic, Hebrew, German, and Latin are what are known as languages.

The Hebrew excerpt above is the traditional beginning of many Jewish prayers, "Blessed are you, oh Lord our God."

The German excerpt above is from the Lord's Prayer, "Heavenly Father, who art in Heaven."

Finally, the Latin excerpt is part of a mass, "Communicating and reverencing the memory of the Virgin Mary, mother of our God, and Jesus Christ."

In other words, two are Christian prayers and one is a Jewish prayer even though they are in different languages. You can say them in any language, actually, and the meaning is usually the same. So, Alluhaakbar or "God is great..." A rose by any other name...

Islam traces a common root through Abraham.

Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet.

Nice show, Ranger. Let's see, I was explaining that Hussein is an Arabic name that is common in the Arabic speaking world. It is often given in religious reverence to Husayn ibn Ali, but is also given in secularist contexts. This has absolutely nothing to do with the roots of Islam or whether Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet, rather the roots of a common name.

Beam was using satirical exageration to try to trivialize Obama's blunders.

No, Beam was using satire to make fun of the blatant lies, distortions, and other rumors that have been spread on the internet.

Having the middle name, Hussein, for instance, is not a "blunder." Calling Obama a Muslim because his middle name is Hussein, though, is a lie. Saying Obama was schooled in a Madrassa is a lie.

Making a joke that Obama's name actually means "He who loves Jesus" is mocking the individuals that have focused on Obama's middle name as some form of evidence of Obama's supposed ulterior motives to enslave the white race. You see the difference?

Let's look at Beam's other comments:

Obama doesn't really wear a flag pin in the shower. Again, this is not "trivializing Obama's blunders," rather it is making fun of idiots who think that wearing a flag lapel (or not wearing one) is indicative of much more than fashion sense.

The Pledge of Allegiance--again, a joke. A joke making fun of the people that claim that Obama will not say the pledge (he has even led the pledge on the Senate floor) or put his hand over his heart during the pledge. (Also, an outright lie, not a "blunder.")

Tape of Michelle Obama at a conference on patriotism. Another direct slam of the outright lie that a tape exists of Michelle Obama going on a racist tirade at Trinity Church (later changed to the Sheraton when the early lie was proven to be a lie).

Hunting: I will give you this one--this is a reference to an actual blunder, Obama's "bitter" gaffe.

Hand on heart---A reference to the lie that Obama refuses to put his hand on his heart during the pledge. The above linked video disproves this.

Declaration of Independence tattoo and IPod--a reference to those that claim the man seeking the highest office in the nation is somehow unpatriotic.

Name--we have already covered this one extensively

Church--a reference to those that have called him Muslim or anti-Christian, etc.

etc. etc. etc.

These aren't covering up blunders. They are making fun of other rumors.

Barack. In American English, it translates to target.

Re: Spin, Spin Spin

Ha, ha, ha. That was a funny joke.

Now tell us something of Obama's plan other than hope, change and future.

Re: Inane Rambling
by TheRanger

You just can't connect the dots.

In Islam Arabic is used virtually exclusively whether in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Somalia, USA, or Great Britain.

PS

Your translation of the German is wrong, It begins Our Father not Heavenly Father. Using you uneducated transliteration:

The German excerpt above is from the Lord's Prayer, "Heavenly Father, who art in Heaven."

where else would you expect to find the heavenly father but in heaven?

Regarding the Hebrew:

Why do you refer to it as a Jewish prayer and not as a Hebrew prayer?

Which is the religion and which is the nation?

It is just like Islam.

Presbyterians unless of ethnic roots do not use German, nor do they use Greek or Hebrew or Aramaic (the original languages of the Bible). The Catholic church used Latin as its official language (as in Vatican along with Italian) world wide.

Keep studying and maybe you will get into high school.
