All Food is Questionable
by Heleva

From produce, to processed foods, to dairy. At what point of does one become apathetic or disgusted by the fact that government agencies, the food producers and the retailers don't have anyone's best intrests at heart? Money drives it all and if you want a chain of custody on your food outside of producing it yourself, it will cost you. Bon Apetit

Having spent the better part of my life in the food industry working with a broad spectrum of companies I must sadly concur with your primary premise. Misbranding and adulteration are rampant in the US. All segments of the food chain and market are effected; Every major retailer in the US is effected. Every major full service institutional wholesaler is effected. No one is left out. Some of the biggest offenders are those pretending to be advocates or proponents of "healthy alternatives" like organic. The full irony of this can only be appreciated if you happen to have participated in the last two nation-wide label changes mandated by the Federal government and witnessed the rise in private companies whose sole purpose is to "certify for profit" what state and federal government agencies used to routinely police. I have never seen anything like the broad level of cheating that dominates certain whole categories in the food industry. The USDA, FDA, along with State and local agencies have been rendered ineffective by attrition and cut backs and have all but abdicated much of their responsibility to trade associations controlled by the very industries they are charged with monitoring. Most Americans have no idea how far the situation has deteriorated. Last week I got a chance to examine the laboratory results from eight different brands of Extra virgin olive oil. Four were national brands and four were well known private labels from National Chain stores. Only two of the eight passed the minimum international requirements set by the industry for the grade and only one of the eight could be considered "premium", and it had at least one defect. It is beyond naive to imagine that the food industry will police itself. Stoneground

You all don't understand. The regulations on food saftey are only there to cause economic damage to the food for profit industry.there never was a problem with tainted food before regulations were put in place years ago.It came soley from the pinko commie non-christian liberal freedom loving safe food wanting leftist. As a mater of fact all regulations on all businesses were put in place for disruption of business oppritunities. The is no need for worker or consummer protection.there never was.it's all just a liberal lie!!!(at least thats' what my good buddies like larry elder of kabc radio or my fiend ...oops my friends at the wall street journal says.
